04.09.26 | Man I’m stoked to see RE5 at number 1. I’ve recently played through it 3 times with my sis and we’ve both had a blast. We’re now going through 6 and I unfortunately can’t say as much. Beat Village not too long ago and it was wayy easier than I was expecting as I remember having a way harder time with 7 when it came out. Can’t wait to get around to getting through the 2 and 4 remakes. GOAT series | CaliggyJack
04.09.26 | 2 an 4 remakes are good but 4 Remake is absolutely 🐐 ed
5 is a masterpiece | Gyromania
04.09.26 | Is your rating of 5 so high because it has the best mercs in the franchise? That def inflates my rating for it a bit. OG 3 is indeed incredible; I just went through it recently for the first time in a long time, and it holds up amazingly well. Remake and 7 are the benchmarks for me for actual survival horror, but RE has been a lot more than just straight up survival horror for decades now.
About to start on my replay of 8, but for me it's been the weakest entry in the series since the day I played it. Hoping I can enjoy it more this time around. I figured maybe the 3rd person pov makes combat more enjoyable/makes enemies more kiteable. Although I've heard from others that you can tell the game was noticeably not designed with 3rd person in mind. Tbf, when I went back to 7 a week ago, I messed with some of the settings and found that turning aim acceleration off made the game feel way smoother and faster, so maybe that's the trick for 8 as well. | CaliggyJack
04.09.26 | My only problem with 7 is the ship level suuuuuuuuucks
Also I just love everything about 5, like, everything. | Gyromania
04.09.26 | 5's campaign is around a 7/10 for me, but mercs is a hard 10/10 experience. If I'm playing coop, I'd bump my main campaign rating to an 8. It's a good time, but I have issues with the story and the sillyness goes a little too far for my liking. I'm excited to check out the dlcs when I go back to it soon. I never played them before and I heard there's a Spencer-Mansion dlc that's great.
I love the ship level in 7. The mines are the lame part in that game, if any, and they're over so fast. Never got the hate for the ship. Creepy atmosphere, enjoyable level design, tense survival horror sections. Only truly weak thing about it is it's not the Baker estate/Evelyn is kind of cringe. | BAT
04.09.26 | Copy pasting my tiers from the other thread
1: og 1, 2, 4, remake, 3, rem4ke
2: cv, r2make, re7, village, rem4ke seperate ways
3: re5, og 1 dualshock arranged, outbreak, re6, r3make, rev2
4: revelations, dead aim, zero, 7 dlc, ocr, mercenaries 3ds[haven't played this but played re5m and assume its just a cutdown vers], survivor, gaiden
5: re:resistance, reverse, and umbrella corps.
Zero being above og 1/4 is what I take the most issue with. I feel like if they finished the n64 version it would've been a better game, as-is it feels like they tried to retool it closer to the remake annnnd as a result it isn't as good as og trilogy or remake. Also feels like a waste of effort revamping it considering there's almost zero actual connection to remake in terms of story/chars. The cutscenes alone are kind of an indicator of the various stages of dev; half of them look like re2 while the in game stuff likes leagues ahead even on the GameCube vers. It also has the worst soundtrack of the fixed angle games, they go for an ambiance approach and it just isn't memorable. Most recognizable bit is the wind music whenever the swampy guys showed up. I still love the game, I just think it's the weakest fixed angle entry. Top notch background design tho one of the best looking games in the series. | Trebor.
04.09.26 | 5 and 6 are very bad and make me feel very bad indeed. Code Veronica and Zero are meh. Every other numbered title is other great or fantastic or classic. Rev 1 is really good and Rev 2 is doo doo
4 remake is way worse than the original and I don't get why anyone thinks otherwise | Gyromania
04.09.26 | 5 and 6 are only bad insofar as their story and dialogie is loltier. The actual mechanics and tech in those games (more so 6) gives them a decently high skill ceiling and they become quite a lot of fun to master. | BAT
04.09.26 | 6 is a game where the more i play it the more i respect it, on initial impressions it's jank but once you've learned the ins/outs of the combat it's actually pretty expansive. it's the one pre-re:engine game i don't think really needs a remake cause it's not too far off from modern shooters. definitely a better ng+ game tho, feel like it'd probably have a better reception if it was shorter cause you don't feel the benefits of replaying as quickly as any of the other games. |
