PHANTASM V RAVAGER
Genuinely an awful movie on every level, but to no fault of Coscerelli’s screenplay. The story and writing is some of the best in the franchise, and it actually made me tear up a bit to see these characters again, in a story which doubles down on the reflective, emotional elements of the fourth.
It’s just a shame it looks like a fucking Nostalgia Critic video.
3/5 would be much lower, but through squinting and forcing myself thru the visuals, i really engaged with the story. | | 4 | | Mercyful Fate Melissa
PHANTASM III
In 2020, i said this was my favorite of the series, and i can certainly see why. Though i definitely don’t feel that way now. It’s wonderfully entertaining for its off the wall David Lynch feeling bits (i would say this is Phantasm meets Wild at Heart) but i don’t want that for Phantasm. I appreciate it for its eccentricities and bringing in more of the surreal vibes of the original, but it felt unsatisfying after loving 1 and 2 so much.

PHANTASM II
Just a great fucking horror movie. A bit less unique compared to it’s predecessor, but immaculately paced and streamlined, with some fantastic effects work and set design. One of the best looking horror films ever imo.
It would be a 5 if Mike wasn’t recast, makes the whole movie feel a bit off, even though he did a fine job.

PHANTASM
I first watched this when i was 6, and it became an absolute obsession for me throughout my life. It’s a marvel of low budget passion and craft, having the best score of any horror film, and an undeniable atmosphere which is unlike anything else (the closest i can think of is City of The Living Dead, and that’s my favorite horror film)
I hadn’t watched this since 2020, so it felt really good to see again.

PHANTASM IV
This one shocked me a bit, because it’s one i never cared much for, but i found the more reflective, somber pace to be really powerful and cathartic. The older i get, the more these films mean to me, and this one hit pretty damn hard. It also has a handful of genuinely unnerving little moments which i had forgotten.
Also loved how the vibe here kind of feels like the Myst games, and the visuals are very progressive rock album cover feeling.
