Iron Maiden The Number of The Beast Ranked
Ok first off, while the previous albums were had an S tier or two, in comparison this one is top loaded with S tiers so really anything from 3-6 is pretty much equal quality and just a matter of the smallest hair splittings. |
| 8 | Iron Maiden Gangland
FUCK THIS TRACK. Theres mediocre tracks, and then there are the one's that swing and miss badly. What annoys me about this one so much? Two Things:
1. The track is so so so so so self sabotaging. Every time they get something good going on the next section kills the momentum. The Intro drum is cool but guitar riff comes in to not much fanfare or energy, then the riff kicks ass but chorus is just a lame duck. The pre-chorus is horrendous and way too long. The Interlude is cool and Adrian's solo is ok. now this leads to my second point.
2. Its obvious the band didnt put much care into this one. Biggest Proof; they forgot to fucking record Dave's solo for it so theres just this awkward section of just background riff which ruins the buildup of the first solo. |
| 7 | Invaders
Contrary to many, I really dont consider this a bottom 5 Maiden track or whatever, but yeah its undeniably the worst intro track of the band. Sadly its a little goofy in the chorus key change. However the riffs still smack and the solo section is fun. |
| 6 | 22 Acacia Avenue
As previously stated anything 3-6 is pretty much equal quality. If I had to explain why its below rest its that I think its JUST A LITTLE long winded for what it offers. Still a very fun sequel to Charlotte the Harlot. |
| 5 | Run To The Hills
My one gripe is that this or the Trooper is the only track people know especially because of Rock Band. However it is a frantic tour-de-force and has many of the albums iconic moments. A very well paced track consider the previous entry. |
| 4 | Children of The Damned
The lush 12 string intro does a good job setting the tale, and it goes to so many places. The Bruce part before solos is fantastic and the first sign that this album is the evolution of the band. |
| 3 | The Prisoner
Probably my fav Clive Burr moment, that drum intro is the tits. Bruce does an amazing job carrying the wonderful chorus and the rest of the track just oozes attitude (in a good way this time). |
| 2 | The Number of The Beast
A Funky mode makes this track stand out like crazy with some fun time sig bending shenanigan's. The Pounding Verse/Chorus into the frantic bridge is the perfect buildup to allow solos to kick ass and then it all gets brought back down in splendid fashion. Holy Hell This album really is a step up. |
| 1 | Hallowed Be Thy Name
How could this not be first!? Not only is it the greatest song the band has ever done, for me it is the absolute epitome of metal in general. Perfect Masterpiece, everything serves the song. (If only Adrian still played his solo live). |
