Against Me! Ranked
Definitely missed this band for a while and jumped into their discog during what was likely their critically lowest point but many a fond memory of jamming out to this group. |
| 1 | | Against Me! Reinventing Axl Rose
The absolute authenticity is undeniable. I really feel like I'm among a bunch friends who have had a few pints of Guinness when belting out the choruses to these songs. An album that captures a vibe or a place you can't quite place but still warms you all the same. |
| 2 | | Against Me! As the Eternal Cowboy
Much more of the same from the debut, but already the shift in sound can be seen as off-putting for those who prefer the more raw sound. Personally I still love it and can jam out to these badass tracks. |
| 3 | | Against Me! White Crosses
This one came out while I was still in high school and the style of this album was very much the kind of rock and punk I was getting into at the time. Admittedly not as consistent as the above two albums but still just hits all the notes right for me across the runtime. Love the drums in particular on this one. |
| 4 | | Against Me! Transgender Dysphoria Blues
What way to bring back the pure authenticity than being authentic enough to accept that you are a woman and to flip your whole life upside down. Obviously, the lyrical content is hard hitting and the music and melodies are very pleasing. |
| 5 | | Against Me! Searching for a Former Clarity
I can agree to a very small amount that the shift from that boomy acoustic sound to a sleeker electric is somewhat a detriment to bands overall direction at this time in history but the songwriting is still so charged that it still makes for a great album. It has hints of the things that I don't like in the following album, New Wave, which explains its positioning in this list for me. |
| 6 | | Against Me! Shape Shift With Me
It seems that this one is fine, but kinda fails to really please the fans of any of the split subsets of fans this album has. Even looking back I am having a tough time really remembering much of this album and I think that says enough. |
| 7 | | Against Me! New Wave
The completion of the aforementioned dilution of the bands sound, its just ok but very inconsistent and very much a miss when considering the sound and mission of the other Against Me! albums. |
