01.04.26 | chair company was the only decent American show i watched this year. |

01.04.26 | Never heard of it, will investigate |

01.04.26 | White Lotus S3 was very bad though |
DoofDoof
01.04.26 | I liked it, other than the finale of season 2 which was a lot of fun, I would rate it higher than season 2
Season 1 is of course still the best |
Gameofmetal
01.05.26 | Landman and Stranger Things not being at the bottom is a complete joke. Yeah Taylor Sheridan I really love hearing your self-insert diatribes against woke anti-oil-ism, I'm sure you're not lying constantly to zero compelling resistance from the characters you wrote. + the constant gags of old men being completely befuddled by the concept of young women's sexuality. Boomer slop.
Slow Horses is amazing though. |

01.05.26 | Lol |

01.05.26 | Love to see some Alien Earth love but the Severance S2 criticism is baffling to me |
DoofDoof
01.05.26 | Gameofmetal - Landman I just found clunky and boring really, maybe I should have rated it lower but overall it was passable stuff at times. The green energy message might hit differently whether you're living in the UK or US I guess.
Stranger Things…I liked the previous season a lot actually, but this time it was tonally jarring and rang hollow…but they spent some money and there was still some spectacle to it.
anarchistfish - Severance S2 lost all the charm for me, seems like a fragile ecosystem of a show that worked well within the sort of limited set up established early on. Personally I’d have liked it a one season and done cult classic where they fashioned an ending to the story there. Dunno, glad some people ‘got’ season 2 though. |

01.05.26 | Pluribus was my favourite and the best TV I've seen since Succession. And hard disagree about Adolescence - I was riveted.
Haven't heard of 1 - need to give it a watch. |
DoofDoof
01.05.26 | I might try Pluribus - I can’t remember exactly why I didn’t try it in the end, think a review said it was similar to The Good Place which is one I couldn’t get into at all. |
Gyromania
01.05.26 | S5 was the weakest season of ST but I still dug it. Season 4 was just all-around better, and S3 is maybe peak for me.
The Good Place is cringe and Pluribus is def not like it haha. Highly recommend.
I'm considering watching the It tv show, the Derry one. Was also considering The Chair Compny, heard great things about that.
Severance S1&2 are both 10/10 masterpieces, for me at least. Best show on TV rn. |
DoofDoof
01.05.26 | I guess I feel the same about S1 and 2 of Severance as how I felt about S1 and 2 of Westworld.
Lots more complexity and world building but the key appeal was neglected somewhat. |
gryndstone
01.05.26 | The little eyeball in Alien: Earth was the real star of the show
Season 4 of Stranger Things was better than 5 purely for the Hawkins stuff. They really needed to kill off Hopper in 3 so we didn't have to watch that stupid Russian subplot and maybe get more character moments between literally anyone in that California group
I liked s5 as a series finale but as a season it feels like it intentionally leaves plot lines open as sequel material and idk how I feel about that. The more I think about it the more I think it's like...6/10 |
gryndstone
01.05.26 | Kiiind of agreed on severance. The show has something tense and esoteric in S1 that lost something as soon as they went hard on world building. I respect them for trying though, and I'd watch the third season when they inevitably comes out |
DoofDoof
01.05.26 | gryndstone - I'll keep loyal with Severance, I respect it has carved out unique territory, still nothing similar right now.
Stranger Things there were quite a few characters who they could have killed off and had the double win of upping the feeling of jeopardy and also clearing the dead wood. They chickened out though.
The eyeball was best TV character of the year and with no real dialogue, props to it, I'd welcome it into my cranium. |
Gyromania
01.06.26 | STS5 had some great moments, but the pacing was kind of fucked. Also the characters in this show have the thickest plot armour of all time. The mindflayer AND Vecna in peak form get dunked on by a group of kids... 0 casualties on the human side. Nancy says she's going to be the bait and then gives the others no head start... and a minute later they've somehow free solo'd a mountain to fight the Mindflayer and save Nancy at the last second. It's just.. a lot of contrivances like that.
I can suspend disbelief with shows like this, but sometimes the dissonance is too real. Another scene that comes to mind is Hopper and 11 rushing to save Holly. It's a top priority, and for good reason duh, but after 11 says they should patch up Hopper's wound (also fair) they decide to have this slow, tender, drawn out emotional conversation. And I'm just sitting there thinking, "what the fuck are you two doing rn? Priorities?" Stuff like that really takes me out of the moment. I think this should have been a 10 episode season, they should have paced things better, but also done away with some of the more drawn out expository stuff. Which, like yeah Idk how you make it somehow longer but also feel less bloated lol. Maybe it just needed more time in the oven in general. I'm happy with it overall though, and I'm not having a meltdown over Will's coming out scene like some people are, but I do wonder what this season could have been. |

01.06.26 | Stranger Things is fucking trash bar season 1 and even then it was the nostalgia factor holding it together. And adolescence is actually pretty damn good. |
Gyromania
01.06.26 | Totally backwards imo. Adolescence is awful. |
DoofDoof
01.06.26 | 'I'm not having a meltdown over Will's coming out scene'
"If I don't get out of this closet the world will end!"
It was one of those scenes you're there going 'ah, they are going to go there then...' and then it's the longest scene of the entire season. like you said I sort of rolled with it all though, including that scene. Subtlety and nuance be damned! |
DoofDoof
01.06.26 | Adolescence felt very contrived, I mean my wife works as head of behaviour in a 2500 pupil secondary school so we were always going to watch it, and she got something from it.
The political side of it in the UK, it is what it is, but Keir Starmer saying it should go 'straight on the syllabus' is hilarious. A sledge hammer to crack the smallest of walnuts...this is not the major behavioural problem in secondary schools, it wouldn't make a top 50 of common issues in 2025.
Theres more chance of your daughter's male teacher being a pedo than her young male classmate being a violent misogynist.
As a drama though it really ran out of road and his family dynamic was unconvincing |
gryndstone
01.06.26 | Unfortunately the will coming out scene is the perfect way to look at the big pacing issues with s5. I wouldn't have minded him coming out to the folks he was closer with, or even everybody who was present in that room! But to place that scene where it is placed IS kind of jarring. Doubled up with people who are upset that there's woke in their nostalgia slop and you have some real negative press for your big finale...
Again though I enjoyed the season overall. I think the middle stretch of episodes, the third to the fifth in particular, were really fun. Home alone-ing a house to track a demogorgon was such a sick set of scenes |
DoofDoof
01.06.26 | gryndstone - I'm with you, there were enough fun scenes and creative ideas to make it a worthwhile watch, but the pacing and tonal switches were all over the place.
Season 4 gave us Eddie...season 5 gave us granny Sarah Connor dragged backwards through a hedge and twice as miserable about that than is reasonable. Oh, and the Augustus Gloop lad. |
AlkemestRedux
01.06.26 | Parker Posey's accent on White Lotus cracked me up so much lol
Great series! Gotta check out the Alien one, and Alice in Borderlands s3. The first two seasons were a blast, so glad to hear the newest one is too.
Have you watched the show From? I feel like it's a sleeper hit that'll blow up sooner or later, but it's phenomenal. |
HooperD87
01.07.26 | Yeah, Adolescence was very much a love or hate show from what I've gathered. Plenty of people I've spoken to couldn't stand it and others really enjoyed it. Can certainly see why people would dislike it. Still can't figure out what people enjoy about Stranger Things though. Especially after season 1. |
markjamie
01.07.26 | Completely lost interest in Stranger Things during Season 4 - didn't finish that and didn't bother with Season 5.
From is ace. Can't wait for the next season. |
Kimm
01.07.26 | Yooo One Hundred Years of Solitude holy shit...I didn't even know that was a thing, but I love the book. Gonna watch that for sure. |
