My Black Metal Journey Pt 2
So yeah I made a list and I really enjoyed seeing everyone recommend me stuff and talk about the genre, I fell out of the checking out everyone's recs so I'm making a part two because i miss that discussion and I want to psych myself into finishing off everyone's recs. |
| 1 | | Kvelertak Kvelertak
Starting off with my favorite discoveries in black metal, I fucking love this album, it's just SO FUN to listen to! headbangers and that 'rock-n-roll' vibe that I guess is why it's labeled as 'black n roll' on RYM. |
| 2 | | Wayfarer A Romance with Violence
Another record I often repeat on Spotify, it's just a vibe man! I dunno how else to put it, This thing just pulls off its weird-ass style of wild west soundtrack and black metal really well, i dunno what else there is to say about it |
| 3 | | Evoking Winds Your Rivers
grand epic fantasy metal tickles my fancy, I chose this one as a stand in for all the other records of that vibe that you all have recommended me, including Summoning by Stronghold, and Hiraeth by Null |
| 4 | | Enslaved Ruun
charbyno brought up these guys, I chose this as my first dive into this group, hopefully I'll like it |
| 5 | | Blackbraid Blackbraid III
I saw "native american black metal" and knew I had to check this out. Side question: what is it with black metal that makes so many eager to experiment with it as opposed to other genres? we got wild west black metal, appalachian black metal, Christian black metal, headbanging hardcore punk black metal, folk black metal, like what got people looking at this genre of church burning death obsessed norwegians and going "I'mma throw random things at this genre and see what sticks"? I find that extremely fascinating how THIS is the metal genre people are so eager to get weird with
Anyway about this album, it reminds me A LOT of Wayfarer, I dunno if that means anything, but I like it! feeling it might end up a 4/5 |
| 6 | | Violet Cold Sommermorgen (Pt. I) - Innocence
Shoutout to SuzyC for recommending this group, I'mma pick this album as my starting point |
| 7 | | Crow Black Sky Sidereal Light: Volume One
same as above, shoutout to SuzyC |
| 8 | | The Ruins of Beverast Foulest Semen of a Sheltered Elite
This guy fused black metal and doom metal, and I loved The Thule Grimoires so this is next on my list |
| 9 | | Deathspell Omega The Furnaces of Palingenesia
shoutout to twlight for putting this group up, he suggested this and then work backwards |
| 10 | | Dzo-nga The Sachem's Tales
Sevengill said they would be happy for me to check out their stuff so I'm putting their debut on the list. Hopefully I'll dig it 🤞 |
| 11 | | Dark Watcher Frontier
Gameofmetal recommended their band, I'll happily check em out when I have the time |
| 12 | | Emperor In the Nightside Eclipse
I need to listen to this because Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk is fucking phenomenal! courtesy of ToSmokMuzyki |
| 13 | | Bathory under the sign of the black mark
I checked this out and yeah not my thing but it black metals pretty good, probably a 2/5 personally. Tight musicianship and all, but I just don't enjoy it. I feel the same thing when listening to Blood Fire Death |
| 14 | | Borknagar The Archaic Course
Rec'd by Hawks |
| 15 | | Borknagar Empiricism
same as above |
| 16 | | borknagar Borknagar
rec'd by budgie |
| 17 | | Borknagar The Olden Domain
Geez I guess I'm gonna be listening to a lot of Borknagar when I get to em lol |
| 18 | | The Kovenant Nexus Polaris
rec'd by budgie |
| 19 | | midnight Satanic Royalty
this is also labeled as 'black n roll' like kvelertak so I might like this, I am excited to find out |
| 20 | | Kvelertak Meir
I loved the debut so might as well try this one out and see how it goes |
