12.18.25 | excuse me bitch are u saying phantom was no good? |
RVAHC13
12.18.25 | Worst year of the decade by far, last year was waaaaay more plentiful. Here’s some decent cuts:
Combust - Belly of the Beast
Doomsday - Never Known Peace
Hazzerd - The 3rd Dimension
Coroner - Dissonance Theory
|
Jmal00
12.18.25 | Dissonance Theory is neither thrash nor decent but I’ll be sure to check out the rest. |
Jmal00
12.18.25 | Smok is that a rec or are you just jerkin? |
RVAHC13
12.18.25 | Tbh I don’t enjoy a lot of dissonance theory that much either but I thought I’d throw it out there |
NexCeleris
12.18.25 | It was an okay year for thrash. 3 is peak imo. Far from a comprehensive list of recs, but depending on what kind of thrash you’re after, you might dig these (ordered by release date, oldest to newest):
Mental Devastation - The Delusional Mystery of the Self Part II (Tech Thrash)
Void - Forbidden Morals (Speedy Thrash)
Violator - Unholy Retribution (Thrash)
Condition Critical - Degeneration Chamber (Thrash)
Mortal Scepter - Ethereal Dominance (Slightly tech-y Thrash - pretty good)
Sadistic Goatmessiah - Violence (Blackened Speed-Thrash)
Dead Heat - Process of Elimination (Crossover)
GraveRipper - From Welkin to Tundra (Blackened Thrash)
Atonement - Ripping Death (Deathrash)
Disarray - The Darkening (Thrash)
Venus Torment - Coldness of Absence (Black-Thrash)
Demiurgus - Equilibrio (Deathrash)
Bezdan - Upon the Altar (Blackened Thrash)
Burning Death - Burning Death (Thrash)
(Also Cryptosis if that counts.) |
RVAHC13
12.18.25 | Omg welcome back^ just who we needed |
NexCeleris
12.18.25 | Forgot Tempest - Obscure Hallucinations, which came out last week and tbh is more thrashy dm than thrash, but might scratch an itch. |
jrlikestodance
12.18.25 | I liked the two New World Man tracks that dropped this year but I didn't really listen to much thrash |
Galbador
12.18.25 | Void (USA-LA) rulz |
rockarollacola
12.18.25 | the Dissonance Theory glazing on this site has genuinely been hard to watch
New Testament is AOTY tho |
RVAHC13
12.18.25 | It’s a good album if you like that production/sound but that’s not necessarily what I personally want out of a Coroner album.
I think a lot of that rating is based on respect from fans that they jumped back into the studio after such a long recording drought and churned out a modern-style progressive metal album. Again, not for me, but I respect their effort |

12.18.25 | Doomsday - Never Known Peace |

12.19.25 | I regret to inform you that you're slightly misguided, they've been plenty of quality thrash albums released in 2025 |

Jmal00
12.19.25 | Rock and metal Junkie yeah that’s kinda the point of this list. I’m asking for recs. But you not recommending anything isn’t helping the issue at hand. |
Jmal00
12.19.25 | I will check all the recommendations as soon as I can. I appreciate you fine thrashers for trying your best. |
mkmusic1995
12.19.25 | New Warbringer as well |
Demon of the Fall
12.19.25 | Nex just dropping in and providing the goods. Stick around fella. We've missed you.
And apologies to Jmal because I just wanted to say that. I'm seriously under-qualified and have nothing to offer. |
Jmal00
12.19.25 | Your presence is more than enough. No need to apologize, you have positively contributed to society today and that is all we can do in life. |
DarkSideOfLucca
12.19.25 | How the hell did you forget Coroner? That's my #2 album of the year man, it's been on repeat for me. |
Brabiz
12.19.25 | I hate modern thrash so much. While I think BM suffers from the same problem of being oversaturated with generic bands, the entirety of thrash rn is just the most cookie cutter, on rails shit ever. New Testament rules tho agreed |
Jurtz
12.19.25 | There's no more room for innovation in thrash metal, everything has already been done and that leads to a lot of bands that have a generic sound, because we've heard it all before. |
RVAHC13
12.19.25 | That might be true but you still can make a great thrash record that stands out today (see Demoniac, Dissimulator, Autonoesis) a lot of it depends on how it’s produced.
Overly sterile production lends nothing to the thrash sound since it came from 80’s heavy metal/punk rock. Say what you want about the dudebro crossover stuff from the 2000’s/2010’s but at least them being influenced by 80’s bands like DRI kept them from veering into flat studio drums and hypercompressed guitars |
troyofyort
12.19.25 | "There's no more room for innovation in thrash metal, everything has already been done and that leads to a lot of bands that have a generic sound, because we've heard it all before."
Yeah agreed; I can't imagine actually being a thrash disciple so damn limiting.
I def like thrash as more a spice you can add to other genres than being the main dish, like how I would use peppers but dont necessarily wanna eat them by themselves. |
Jmal00
12.19.25 | Lucca- that new Coroner abomination is not thrash. It’s some weird drone groove hybrid. I am absolutely floored at the love that album has gotten but that conversation should probably be had elsewhere. Let’s stick to the thrash. |
jrlikestodance
12.19.25 | Imo punk influenced genres like thrash don't need to be innovative to be great. Gimme some riffs, solid production and good pits and I'm happy |
Jmal00
12.19.25 | I think there is definitely room to still be creative and innovative with a thrash album in 2025. You do occasionally get a standout album like last years Mayhemic and Autoneosis as mentioned by RVAHC. But a lot of bands just don’t care about being original or exceptional. |
RVAHC13
12.19.25 | I feel the same way about death metal, to me it’s supposed to sound a little raw and dirty. I like what bands like Worm, Tomb Mold and Voidceremony do by peeling back some of the polish and exposing that visceral sound that made early 90’s releases so special.
Also yes good innovative guitar work always helps which thrash tends to lack at times |
jrlikestodance
12.19.25 | Great points men |
DarkSideOfLucca
12.19.25 | Dude, I am obsessed with Worm, Tomb Mold, Horrendous and other bands like that
Never heard of Voidceremony, I just put on their newest one but lmk if I should start somewhere else, I'm very excited |
brickhed
12.19.25 | i was gonna mention death metal too, seems like all extreme metal needs some kind of drive to do something either great or different. for death metal i dislike the huge movement of it being super polished, even if i do like the music. sometimes it works with the sound well, sometimes it's super sterile. then the bands who do the raw style it's that shit-fi type that lacks punch. take cues from devourment or internal suffering when it comes to raw mixes is what i would do. this is coming from a mostly bdm perspective but still. some bands do that raw feel right and keep on doing that.
shoutout to sulfuric cautery keeping things brutal with their new record, those goregrind guys are really onto something with the blend. |
RVAHC13
12.19.25 | @Lucca their new one is probably their best so that’s as good a place as any. The previous one also had some killer guitar work as well |
Hawks
12.19.25 | New one is their best, but whole discog rules. |
Jmal00
12.19.25 | I think a large issue in metal that this site does not discuss often enough is a staggering lack of riffs per song. You had bands like Artillery, Deceased… and Dark Angel that packed 30 different riffs into songs. Now bands give you 3 a song max. Production is an issue but I do not think it is the only one. |
Hyperion1001
12.19.25 | id rather 3 good riffs than 47 bad ones. |
Hyperion1001
12.19.25 | also the only one on this list i listened to was 4 and its dogshit jdawg core. |
ToSmokMuzyki
12.19.25 | id rather only good sht was ever created alas a gold miner i must be |
Galbador
12.19.25 | So give us some of the findings and not just shit |
Jmal00
12.19.25 | I think I’d actually rather have a song with 47 bad riffs than 3 good ones. 5 minutes of one good riff makes for boring songs. But I’d argue that riffs can be either bad or good solely on the way they are used in the song. |
Hyperion1001
12.19.25 | that species album is awesome. my bud did the mastering so i heard a few snippets a while ago and kinda forgot it was coming out. good thing i remembered cause its a ripper. |
