| Windmill bands?
I feel like a boomer but what is the Windmill scene and what are some good bands. Heard a bit and it seems INTRIGUING. | | 1 | | Black Midi Hellfire | |

12.18.25 | Idk what this is, I thought you were talking about the mosh move and wanted beatdown bands | AlkemestRedux
12.18.25 | Pick that grass! lol
Yeah apparently it's a whole loose scene/genre over in the UK. I'm so out of the loop with indie and modern rock that idk if people even use the term. But there's definitely some interesting bands from the limited list I was looking at. | RVAHC13
12.18.25 | They’re art rock/punk bands that performed around the same time in the late 2010’s at the Windmill Pub in Brixton, London and really took off around COVID. The sound is usually a mix between experimental/art rock, post-rock, post-punk, jazz and noise rock (really more of a scene that turned into a genre of sorts). For essential bands/releases I’d probably say:
IDLES - Joy as an Act of Resistance
Shame - Songs of Praise
Black Midi - Schlagenheim
Fontaines D.C. - Dogrel
Squid - Houseplants single
Black Country, New Road - Ants From Up Here
Maruja - Knocknarea
The last two are later releases but they’re both essentially where many of the newer bands draw most of their inspiration from | AlkemestRedux
12.18.25 | Ah so Idles is one, that makes sense. I do love some Idles! I'll check out the rest out. | RVAHC13
12.18.25 | The original bands really took moreso after groups like Ought and Protomartyr but the actual “Windmill sound” people tag onto bands now mostly started with Black Midi and BCNR which is why their name gets brought up so much |
