Lassies 2025

Some of my favorites from this year, and there are some i will not include on this list that i like but i will base my top picks on how much replay value they have had for me etc etc
1Deafheaven
Lonely People With Power

My favorite album of the year (sorry hawks)
2Crippling Alcoholism
Camgirl

Self described as murder pop, this album is driven by great drumbeats, nostalgic and atmospheric synths, pumping bass, guitars drenched in reverb and catchy hooks delivered with the dark timbre of the singer.
Following their impressive second album from last year “With Love From a Padded Room”, which revolves around the psyche of incarcerated criminals, Crippling Alcoholism are not stranger to dark subject matter and don’t shy away from it; in fact they seem to cling on to that darkness with both pride and curiosity. They embrace it all so unabashedly one might mistake these young guys from being old veterans in the music industry by both their lyrical maturity and the fact that the singer sounds like he has been drinking and smoking nonstop for decades.
The main difference between “Camgirl” and “With Love” is that this time around they have managed to make their songs so catchy, danceable and singable, that you will find yourself humming these tunes at work, despite their darkness.
3Anna von Hausswolff
Iconoclasts

Just beautiful stuff. Atmospheric as all hell and with buildups that are shiver inducing.
She finds the balance here of not dwelling in the darkness but rising above it; finding a way to spotlight insecurities and problems as well as embracing and encouraging change. So her aesthetics does not mean shes not touching light as well.
4Jackal Twins
Cuzco

Psychedelic noisy tunes for the hopeless romantic. What Jackal Twins has pulled off here is making a little masterpiece and one of 2025s best albums. They have also established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the ranks of names like The Callous Daoboys If i was to recommend a track i could mention every single one, but for someone who hasnt warmed up to this style of music i would say «Charcoal Lions» or «Never Tamed» to be the safest tracks to check out. Underrated as hell.
5The Callous Daoboys
I Don't Want to See You in Heaven

This album is a rollercoaster. The band clearly wants to challenge the listener and fuck with you with its wide variety of influences; from the utter chaos and agression that is Schizophrenia Legacy, the post hardcore Distracted by The Mona Lisa, to the infectious pop hooks of Lemon and everything between.
6Rapt
Until The Light Takes Us

My favorite folk style album of the year. Warm, cozy and intimate with intricate guitarplaying.
This is also very underrated on this site so be sure to check it out if you like acoustic folky stuff with Sufjan Stevens esque vocals.
7Ethel Cain
Willoughby Tucker, I'll Always Love You

Country influences, ambient sections and haunting drone parts all mesh together for Ethels masterpeice, with both excellent storytelling and performances to boot.
8The Armed
The Future Is Here and Everything Needs to Be...

A couple of years after Ultrapop, they were faced with the impossible task: the follow-up to that album. Would it surpass it in quality? Would they continue advancing and developing that sound? Sadly, the answer to both questions was no. That doesn’t mean Perfect Saviours wasn’t a competent album—it sure was. It just wasn’t what the fans wanted, and with The Future Is Here…, it seems like it wasn’t exactly what the band wanted either.
The hype and expectations weren’t as high as they were after Ultrapop, but when the singles started coming out, fans quickly realized that the band was back with a vengeance
9Moving Mountains
Pruning of the Lower Limbs

Brooding and moody post rock influenced brilliance. I listened to this a lot when it was released and i think i should return to it more often.
10Architectural
Good Night, Whatever That Is

My vocabulary isnt extensive enough, nor is my knowledge of the electronic and techno genre to write anything to do this justice. Just listen to it!
11For Those I Love
Carving the Stone

Although this hasnt stuck with me the same way its predecessor did; that does not take away how masterfully crafted this album is. It is similar to the debut in its lyrical content and focuses on the love from home and the impulses to leave. If you like The Streets, the vocals is like an irish equivalent of that.
12Hooded Menace
Lachrymose Monuments of Obscuration

And the most badass album art of the year goes to! These guys
13Hot Mulligan
The Sound a Body Makes When It's Still

This is not nearly as good or consistent as their last record but that didnt stop this from having enough bangers that i have listened to regularly since it was released.
14Arm's Length
There's A Whole World Out There

Drove back to my hometown
But I can't find our old house anymore
I've got good sense of direction,
I just didn't expect it
Between all the chain stores
I knew it would change,
but I wished not in the ways that made it pure
15Aesop Rock
Black Hole Superette

Aes has released two of his weakest albums this year but because he is so good that doesnt stop one of them from ending up on my list
