Discog run: Mortuary Drape

Been kicking around the idea of doing a review for one of their albums but wanna finish their discography first, including EPs but not demos. Let's gooooo!
1Mortuary Drape
Into the Drape

3.5/5

Gloomy, atmospheric metal punctuated by some quick passages laden with strong Halloween vibes. Lots of cool bass and mid-tempo riffs. Revised the rating upwards after a second listen, and after running through the discog. It's better than and definitely deserves to be higher than Buried in Time.
2Mortuary Drape
All the Witches Dance

4.3/5

A dang classic and one hell of a debut album. Improved every aspect from their first EP and kicked up the intensity and riffs. The ritual occult elements on this album got dialed way up and it really works well for them.
3Mortuary Drape
Mourn Path

4/5

Any of these songs could fit easily into All the Witches Dance. A solid little EP. I love the straight up heavy metal solos Mortuary Drape pumps out.
4Mortuary Drape
Secret Sudaria

4.5/5

This one really pulls together everything from the previous albums and refines it. The riffs swing between galloping thrash and doomy half-tempo slugfests with evil carnival solos ripping out of the ether. Interesting hearing this album right after their first two EPs and albums. Still seems like this is the best starting point for getting into Mortuary Drape though.
5Mortuary Drape
Tolling 13 Knell

3.7/5

Didn't really enjoy this on first listen but could see this growing on me since it's weird as fuuu.

After second listen: There's a lot of strong songs on here, but it has a kind of unfocused mid section and some of the Halloweeny aspects boil over into cheese ie Laylah, Winged Priestess and The Last Supper. The album grew on me, but could have lost a few songs and been stronger for it.
6Mortuary Drape
Buried in Time

3.2/5

I can see why this gets hate. Like a lot of bands seem to do, they hit a point where they thought the best course of action would be to strip out all of the things that make them unique. This is a decent enough blackened thrash album, but not really a Mortuary Drape album. And it's too long. Taking off an extra .1 because the cover sucks too lol
7Mortuary Drape
Spiritual Independence

4.1/5

All the tasty occult and witchy shit is back. Only took them a decade to pull their shit together. Awesome album.
8Mortuary Drape
Wisdom - Vibration - Repent

4/5

Everything that makes Mortuary Drape awesome is on this EP. Loved it! Riffs galore and it's an easily digestible length. That Mercyful Fate cover was sick too.
9Mortuary Drape
Black Mirror

3.9/5

Score bumped up just a bit. This is a solid album that never gets stale. Just when you think you might be getting tired with a riff they change it up. Tons of kickass solos m///

I think this would be up a bit higher with their best albums if they'd dialed up the occult vibes a bit more, and maybe dialed down the production a hair. Feels a bit too clean cut, but maybe that's just me. Still a great listen.
