11.17.25 | Notld iss thee defacto zombie movie, but dawns probably my all time favorite. Days aged like wine, probably tom salvinis best effects work and the soundtracks grown on me a lot. Land I need to rewatch, loved it back in the theaters but still had that indie charm of Romero's movies. Also saw diary in theaters annnnd, while it's not a 'good' movie it's a fun time. Never saw survival, and the nick cannon duel wielding mp5s day of the dead should have it's title changed |

but dawn of the dead 2004 comes close
i really think night of the living dead is overrated and doesn't hold up the same way jaws & the wickerman & psycho do |

11.17.25 | iirc one of the og producers commissioned a script for return of the living dead in the early 80s and by the time it got to dan o'bannon it's rights/title had been shifted through several studios and has nothing to do with the original concept other than keeping it's name and a very loose connection to notld. not sure if it's the same producer but the first zombie guy also made his own 'spinoff' called like flesheater, it's aight 80s indie trash. thaaat guy is also responsible for '30th anniversery edition,' which is a whole other story of legendary shameless cash-ins.
and notld iss a rough around the edges student film but conceptually brilliant, like something like 'jaws'[or even psycho] it really benefits if you watch it at a super young age. if you've seen crazier zombie movies prior to notld it's less impactful. my fav bad aspect of notld is the acting of the guy who swears he can drive that truck, the alien invasion stock music is also hilarious |
