Let's Listen: Blut Aus Nord

Listening through Nile's discography was a blast so I figured why not do it for another band I've listened to some of their stuff but haven't dived in.
1Blut Aus Nord
Ultima Thulee

4.3/5

Fun listen. Very raw black metal mixed with really interesting interludes and intros. I can already tell this is going to be a good follow up to the Nile listening series.
2Blut Aus Nord
Memoria Vetusta I - Fathers Of The Icy Ages

4.6/5

This was a fun listen. Lots of character and really holds your interest.
3Blut Aus Nord
The Mystical Beast of Rebellion

3.5/5

Icy first disc is icy. It's unsettling but the second half is awesome.
4Blut Aus Nord
The Work Which Transforms God

4.8/5

Love how disorienting this was. Dead Clows was indeed epic. It's interesting hearing all the different pieces coming together from the previous albums here.
5Blut Aus Nord
MoRT

4.2/5

This album is awesome. Not quite as memorable as Work, Memoria or Ultima, but definitely more interesting and experimental than Mystical Beasts. The TEXTURES are shifting again. Oh god.
6Blut Aus Nord
Odinist: The Destruction of Reason by Illumination

4/5
7Blut Aus Nord
Memoria Vetusta II - Dialogue With The Stars

5/5

Good god this is incredible.

777 - Sect(s)

3.7/5

Very vibey and I like it well enough. But it almost feels like excellent background music instead of something I'd really jam, in the same way that I like dub techno or trip hop for work, but don't really listen to it otherwise. Just doesn't really demand my attention like Memoria.
9Blut Aus Nord
777 - The Desanctification

3/5

There were some good tracks on here like Epitome VIII, but overall pretty lackluster.
10Blut Aus Nord
777 - Cosmosophy

3.8/5

Much more interesting than the previous two albums. I really like how they'll just let the riffs build and vibe here. Plus the clean singing really elevates the songs on this album.
11Blut Aus Nord
Memoria Vetusta III - Saturnian Poetry

4.5/5

Perfect cap to their 'not a trilogy' Memoria trilogy. Forhist goes so damn hard, but all the tracks are really quality. Doesn't quite reach the ecstatic heights of Stars, or the weirdness of Fathers, but it's solid. And the production is top notch.
12Blut Aus Nord
Deus Salutis Meae

3.9/5

Much like MoRT, I'm digging how weird and unsettling this is. This is some solid black metal honestly. I think with this band the whiplash can really be something that messes with you. This would not be the album you'd think would follow up the third Memoria album, but it do, it do.
13Blut Aus Nord
Hallucinogen

4/5

I think the review is right on the money about this album. It rips but also is very much in the vein of the Memoria series, but doesn't really transcend it for whatever reason. I think this would be a good starting point though for people getting into the band. And that aside it's still a really well-made album. Very engaging listen.
14Blut Aus Nord
Disharmonium - Undreamable Abysses

4.2/5

The psychedelic audio hellscape I've been dreaming of! Man this one is awesome. It has the intensity and darkness of black metal mixed with absolutely disorientation. Good soundtrack for awakening the Eldritch gods.
15Blut Aus Nord
Disharmonium – Nahab

4.5/5

Right up there with their best work in my opinion. I loved how dark and relentless this one was. Infusing their sound with more aggression really paid off. Love the death metal growls too.
16Blut Aus Nord
Ethereal Horizons

4.9/5

Dang old masterpiece. Might slide up to a full 5, but I still love MVII a bit more.
