| Bright Eyes - ranked
Me so sad. | | 11 | | Bright Eyes A Collection Of Songs Written And Recorded '95-'97
Does this even count? I'm a fan, but there are limits. | | 10 | | Bright Eyes A Christmas Album
I hate christmas. | | 9 | | Bright Eyes The People's Key
Listening to this album feels like saying goodbye to your former self. It's an important stepping stone in Oberst's career, but it also feels like an afterthought. There's a lot going on, but nothing sticks. | | 8 | | Bright Eyes Five Dice, All Threes
An okay-ish album that continues the sound of its predecessor. Some songs feel a bit rushed, there are many good ideas, but not too many great ones. | | 7 | | Bright Eyes Cassadaga
It's... meh? I can't get into the sound of the album, it feels slightly overproduced. The songs also aren't that strong. There are some highlights, but as an album, this feels quite dull. | | 6 | | Bright Eyes Down in the Weeds, Where the World Once Was
A more than decent comeback album. Epic sound, sprawling arrangements. It's an album about a man coming to terms with his life. | | 5 | | Bright Eyes Fevers & Mirrors
Good songs, messy production. Conor still was in his emo phase back then, so if you can't stomach his whining, stay far away from this one. | | 4 | | Bright Eyes Letting Off the Happiness
I mean, it's a mess. It sounds like shit. Conor can't sing. The lyrics are "me so sad" on infinite repeat. But I love this album. Because it sounds like shit. Because Conor can't sing. And because me so sad sometimes. | | 3 | | Bright Eyes Digital Ash in a Digital Urn
This one always gets overshadowed by "I'm wide awake...", but it's a very good album that deserves more attention. The band delves deeper into electronica. Some moments are just GRAND. | | 2 | | Bright Eyes I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning
Uncertainty, anger, depression - but in a toned down, precise manner. Suddenly, Conor wrote straight songs and sang them without falling apart. It's perfectly short and still holds up to this day. | | 1 | | Bright Eyes Lifted or The Story is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground
This album was really important for me back then. It's angsty, chaotic, sometimes almost unlistenable. But it deeply affected me. Just a grand experiment with some amazing songs. | |

10.21.25 | I am only familiar with Wide Awake. and i love that one quite a bit. maybe i should give Lifted a try next? | AlkemestRedux
10.21.25 | I think this is a fair ranking, and top three are definitely right in my book too. Although I might boost Cassadaga a bit.
But to Basman, yes, absolutely listen to Lifted! Still hands down the best Bright Eyes album imo. | Gyromania
10.21.25 | 7 is 1 by a mile | AlkemestRedux
10.21.25 | I love Cassadaga when it came out but I feel like it hasn't held up quite as well. I do think some of his best songs are on there though like Classic Cars and Hot Knives. | RVAHC13

Me so sad | Feather
10.21.25 | Five Dice, All Threes is by far the worst
The People's Key is much better than you are saying
Down in the Weeds is really really solid | Feather
10.21.25 | Also, the last 2 times now I have seen Conor in Chicago with Bright Eyes in the past ~3 years he has been very very unwell. Really sad to see. | Veldin
10.21.25 | One of my favorites bands! I’d put Peoples Key and especially Cassadaga higher personally. Five Dice is definitely the worst studio album. I’ve been really enjoying the companion EPS for the most part. New Kids Table EP is better than Five Dice. Lifted is definitely 1 and one of my favorite albums of all time | Feather
10.21.25 | Idk that kids table ep was pretty brutal as well |
