The opening track is one of my top 5 MDB songs easily. Fucking amazing track. The first half is actually great in general, but a lot of the experimentation doesn’t work and it feels very forced. Not a bad album though

The Light at the End of the World
This is cited as a comeback after the previous album, but no matter how hard I try, it’s simply not landing for me. The dark atmosphere is suffocating, and there are a plethora of riffs, but overall I can’t recall any memorable vocal parts or melodies aside from some of the lead guitar work. It’s still a good album and I hope it grows on me over time

The Dreadful Hours
I saved this album for last when going thru their discography and I’m glad I did because it ended up being my favorite. Truly one of the greatest albums I’ve ever heard, and very high up there in the realm of metal albums. It’s a lot of similar elements from their other work, but honed and used in a really creative, energetic way. The pace is pretty blistering considering this is supposed to be a doom record. The melodies on here are soul crushing and beautiful, and the tracklist is constant variety and memorable riffs and moments. One of my top 10 favorite albums ever, probably.

Songs of Darkness, Words of Light
One of two MDB albums I was aware of throughout high school, up until I decided to do this marathon. There isn’t a song on here I don’t like, but in a lot of ways it feels like it’s on autopilot, and doesn’t venture into the arresting brilliance of Dreadful Hours.

A Line of Deathless Kings
A banger of an album and one of their best, easily. That opening track slays. Similar to The Dreadful Hours, this has a different vibe from their usual, and the songwriting is just damn good.
