08.14.25 | 1. I would add the ability to comment in threads and generate user content in more ways that the site is currently offering and for free, but I get why the features are missing, content moderation is chaotic in the age of toxic users and AI bots.
2. Metalstorm is a news site, and it's good at what it does, so I would not change a thing, because forum membership is adequate for site suggestions and improvements.
3. Whether it's a site glitch or a conscious decision from a point further, the inability to make a new account is a good thing in the era of toxic users and AI bots… If the site could be rewritten in a memory safe language like Rust with strict safeguards for account formation that would prohibit AI bots and rogue users, then I would be down for new accounts to be opened again.
3. Not a fan of RYM format, therefore I wouldn't touch a thing.
4. Metal Archives paved the way for community driven music sites, I wouldn't change a thing, apart from increasing the font size everywhere and make the reviews more readable, akin to Sputnik.
5. Used the site sporadically for filing band info for Sputnik, so I don't have any suggestion. |

08.14.25 | There’s a part of me that enjoys being on an island and the camaraderie that comes with it but at worst it could lead to echo chambers/genre favoritism. Not that it bothers me personally but there is noticeably much more discussion around the areas of rock, hardcore and metal on here and less on genres like hip-hop and electronic music which could use more exposure. Thats where I think more users would really help.
Also, even if it is antiquated, I still prefer this layout to RYM. They really need to place limits on list content. Having these lists with 1500+ items is insane. |

08.15.25 | Metal archives has always had a gate keepy approach and it's sad they didn't document all the shitty local nu metal bands of the Myspace era, most of my enjoyment of that site is hitting the random band button and laughing at the band photo or looking up stupid words to see how many bands put it in their name. It could've been even more of a gold mine, but yeah half the shit a rando on the street would name drop are banned from MA meanwhile they just have like a plethora of ambient noise as long as the guy has long hair and wrist spikes. Also strange how readily they'll add any RAC/NSBM/etc bands regardless of how their music actually sounds |

I don't find stuff in the forums enough to be active in, but the community does seem to be more reasonable than everyone makes it out to be. i could not care less about nu metal so i'm not gonna cry that the metal elitists want to keep their database pure or some shit. |

It's like the more chill brother of MA that's a bit more open minded at time. The only metal bands they don't allow at all are nsbm bands or ns bands. Which I never saw what the big deal was rather they had those bands on the site or not but hey it's not my site. |

08.16.25 | didn't know about metalstorm, annd the missing bands isn't a dealbreaker for me i still use MA [mainly to look up lineups and other bands someone's been into, or labels]. i just feel like it's a missed opportunity and has a side effect of creating a niche culture of teens slapping together 'bm demos' to throw bandcamp with the sole goal of getting a MA page. now i'm fine with all that but i feel like there's a slight injustice where that's acceptable but some pre-social media randos playing together for years/spending money on their recordings/getting involved with their local scenes/etc gets shafted for some arbitrary reason. |
