Back to the Beginning - Black Sabb Covers Ranked
Have had some time to ruminate on these covers - and listen to them more than once and twice. Enjoyed them all, but some were better than others. |
| 1 | | Tool Ænima
Hand of Doom - this superb cover was something to see - and Tool played on the tempo shifts to make this a classic |
| 2 | | Mastodon Leviathan
Supernaut - Mastodon were already ruling this cover, before they pulled in Danny (Tool), Mario (Gojira), and Eloy (Slipknot) on drums. Superb cover and started the entire concert off to an incredible start |
| 3 | | Lamb of God Ashes Of The Wake
Children of the Grave - this cover was superb - and way better than it should have been. |
| 4 | | Disturbed Divisive
Sweet Leaf (with David Draiman, Nuno Bettencourt, Scott Ian, David Ellefson, Mike Bordin and Adam Wakeman) - a strong showing and excellent cover |
| 5 | | Alice in Chains Facelift
Fairies Wear Boots- never my fav Black Sabbath track, but AIC made it theirs - excellent |
| 6 | | Rage Against the Machine Rage Against the Machine
Symptom Of The Universe (with Chad Smith, Travis Barker and Danny Carey, plus Tom Morello, Nuno Bettencourt and Rudy Sarzo) - excellent drum off moderated by Tom Morello. Travis took it, for me. |
| 7 | | YUNGBLUD The Underrated Youth
Changes (with Yungblud, Nuno Bettencourt, Frank Bello, II and Adam Wakeman) - not the hugest fan when I first saw it - but over more listens, this cover was owned and is excellent |
| 8 | | Pantera Far Beyond Driven
Planet Caravan - true to their recorded cover and classic |
| 9 | | Gojira Fortitude
Under The Sun - flubbed the spoken intro - and some of the vocals were awkward - but a good cover |
| 10 | | Metallica Ride The Lightning
Hole in the Sky - a good cover |
| 11 | | Various Artists Nativity in Black 2: A Tribute to Black Sabbath
Pantera - Electric Funeral - also a good cover |
| 12 | | Guns N' Roses Appetite for Destruction
Symptom of the Universe - definitely the best of GnR’s covers - even with Axl singing off tempo in the end |
| 13 | | Anthrax I'm The Man
Into the Void - I’m a John Bush era fan, but this was OK |
| 14 | | Limp Bizkit The Unquestionable Truth - Part I
Changes - a different take by Fred Durst |
| 15 | | Metallica St. Anger
Johnny Blade - good try, but a pig with lipstick is still a pig |
| 16 | | Rival Sons Pressure And Time
Electric Funeral - decent, but why is this band here? |
| 17 | | Slayer Reign In Blood
Wicked World - Good cover, not my fav song to begin with - but like how they wrapped it around South of Heaven |
| 18 | | Guns N' Roses G N' R Lies
It’s Alright/Never Say Die - like the later of these songs, but not the best cover |
| 19 | | Guns N' Roses The Spaghetti Incident?
Junior’s Eyes - Another flawed GnR cover |
| 20 | | The Smashing Pumpkins Rotten Apples
Snowblind (with Billy Corgan, Tom Morello, K.K. Downing, Adam Jones, Rudy Sarzo and Danny Carey) - just wow, WTF? |
