Favorite/Notable Modern Thrash
Thrash metal has long been a favorite genre of mine, so I thought I'd make a list of awesome, modern-age thrash that has grabbed my attention over the past few years. Some of these may be well-know around Sputnik, but hopefully I can supply some hidden gems as well. Hope you all find something enjoyable here! |
| 1 | | Critical Defiance The Search Won't Fall...
This group just doesn't miss. Everything they've release is fun, high-energy, and full of awesome riffs. |
| 2 | | Mental Devastation The Delusional Mystery Of The Self Part I
One of my favorites of the past few years. I'm really looking forward to part 2! |
| 3 | | Dissimulator (CAN) Lower Form Resistance
Weird, proggy but ripping thrash with vocoders?! Sign me up. |
| 4 | | Hemotoxin When Time Becomes Loss
I think this release hit one of my DM lists, but it fits just as well here. |
| 5 | | Sadistic Ritual The Enigma, Boundless
Elements of thrash, grind, and death metal with blackened vocals. Really badass. |
| 6 | | Iron Reagan The Tyranny Of Will
A fun as hell romp with some crossover/punk influence. |
| 7 | | Phantom (MEX) Handed to Execution
Very headbangable, and I love those vocals. |
| 8 | | Vulture (DE) Sentinels
I absolutely love this band. Speed and thrash meshed together with some insane vocals that you either love or hate (I just happen to love em). |
| 9 | | Division Speed Division Speed
Totally rips and has some darker riffs as opposed to more "fun" thrash. |
| 10 | | Terrifier Weapons of Thrash Destruction
Their follow-up to this album is absolutely killer as well, but "Reanimator" is probably one of my favorite thrash tracks of all time. |
| 11 | | Mindforce New Lords
Fun, nasty punk/thrash that's fun to blast in the car. |
| 12 | | Mayhemic Toba
Blackened thrash with really urgent riffs and constant momentum. |
| 13 | | Venus Torment Perversion of Nature
Raw, ripping thrash from the guitarist of Ripper (see below). |
| 14 | | Ripper (CL) Experiment of Existence
One of the best death/thrash albums of the modern age. That bass playing is just crazy. |
| 15 | | Hellish The Dance of the Four Elemental Serpents
Their previous work never really grabbed me, but this album is a winner through and through. |
| 16 | | Oxygen Destroyer Guardian of the Universe
Killer death/thrash with insane performances all around. |
| 17 | | Obsolete Animate//Isolate
Proggy, off-kilter thrash. "Still" is an amazing track. |
| 18 | | Terminalist The Crisis as Condition
Cosmic thrash with a blackened edge. |
| 19 | | Apostasy (CHL) Death Return
Nasty, blackened Chilean thrash. I've kept my eye on the South American scene for a few years now and these bands rarely disappoint. |
| 20 | | Shards of Humanity Cold Logic
Ripping death/thrash with amazing album art and even better riffs. |
| 21 | | Tumourboy Damaged System
Straight up filthy thrash that draws from the old-school greats. |
| 22 | | Hazzerd The 3rd Dimension
A prime example of amazing modern thrash that keeps the energy, fun, and epicness at 11/10. |
| 23 | | Transtorned Into the Void
Had to add this one to the database, some really badass, almost brutal stuff on display here. |
| 24 | | Lethal Shock Evil Aggressor
Ripping, headbangable stuff with some sick solos. |
| 25 | | Exul Path to the Unknown
Some slightly longer-form thrash with fantastic songwriting. |
| 26 | | Korrosive Toxic Apokalypse
Probably one of the most aggressive albums on this list, super fast-paced stuff for the most part. |
| 27 | | Sadus The Shadow Inside
A modern classic from one of the best to ever thrash. |
| 28 | | Inculter Fatal Visions
Aggressive, ripping thrash. |
| 29 | | Tymo The Art of a Maniac
Goofy album art, but some serious thrash. |
| 30 | | Tyranex Reasons For The Slaughter
Their previous album lost me a bit with the vocals, but this album sees the band improving on every front. |
| 31 | | Sarcator Swarming Angels & Flies
Good grief I love this album. Extremely catchy while melting your face. |
| 32 | | Sijjin Helljjin Combat
Strange, mid-paced death/thrash with tons of really great moments. |
| 33 | | Ramming Speed Doomed to Destroy, Destined to Die
One of the albums that really deepened my love for thrash metal. Punk/grind-infused with some insane drumming. |
