| Back to the Beginning - Top 5 Sets
Live-streamed the final Ozzy and Black Sabbath show yesterday. A satisfying send off for the Prince of Darkness. The sets were understandably brief, given Ozzy’s health. And I may have added some songs and removed others. But still awesome to see Ozzy et al take the stage one last time. And “ Mama, I’m coming home” was quite the tearjerker. As for the openers, surprises abounded and quality varied. Won’t dog those sets that were just OK to good, but here were my top 5 sets that were great and more so. | | 1 | | Metallica Master Of Puppets
Best opener of the night, by a ways. Metallica played the longest set of the night, I suspect for all bands. A hella strong set pulling in two tracks from Ride the Lightning, two tracks from Master of Puppets, and two Black Sabbath covers (Johnny Blade, Hole in the Sky) weaved in. Definitely brought the most energy of all the sets. And may I say that Lars was a monster in his awkwardly small and yellow drum set. | | 2 | | Tool Ænima
Great set. Never seen Tool in the daylight - really showed the intense interplay between all in the band. Started off with my fav Tool song of all time (Forty-six & 2), played Hand of Doom ( adding in several tempo shifts), and weaved into Aenema as the final (of 3) tracks. | | 3 | | Pantera Cowboys from Hell
Strong set from Pantera, starting off with the iconic intro and track , Cowboys from Hell. Next played Walk. And ultimately closed with two Black Sabbath covers, including their spectacular cover of Planet Caravan - and Electric Funeral. | | 4 | | Ozzy Osbourne The Ultimate Sin
Tom Morello’s All Star A band brought it, with awesome guitar by Jake E Lee and Nuno, and great vocals by the likes of Lzzy Hale (Ultimate Sin), David Draiman (Shot in the Dark, Sweet Leaf), and Whitfield Crane (Believer). David was heavily booed, but brought it regardless. | | 5 | | Mastodon Leviathan
Mastodon kicked off the show and really set the pace. Playing two deep tracks (Black Tongue, Blood and Thunder) , and one of the best Black Sabb covers of the night. Supernaut, at the end of the cover, engaged four drummers - also including Danny (Tool), Eloy (Sepultura, Slipknot), and Mario (Gojira). | |

07.06.25 | Honorable Mention: Gojira, Halestorm, LoG and AIC also played really good sets. Gojira played awesome, but their cover of Under The Sun was a bit off. AIC had audio issues, with Jerry’s Mike nearly off in the first two songs, and the livestream lost sound on their Black Sabbath cover. | Egarran

07.06.25 | The drum-off encapsulated it well: A strange mix of artists doing their best to stay tight while having fun.

07.07.25 | The drum off to Symptom of the Universe was pretty damn good. Personally thought Travis Barker won that - but all 3 did well. | EoinCofa
07.08.25 | I only got a chance to see some clips but from what I saw Nuno owned it! |
