Hyperion1001
05.21.25 | steve roach - dreamtime return is the ultimate nature synth album |
Hawks
05.21.25 | I gotta check 1 and 8 hard. |
mystagogus
05.21.25 | Thanks, haven't explored Roach's huge discog thoroughly yet, guess it's time to dive into classics. |
RVAHC13
05.21.25 | I second Roach. If you’re up for dark ambient you can never go wrong with Lustmord. I’d call him dungeon synth since he basically took field recordings from caves and underground crypts. |
Hyperion1001
05.21.25 | its an extremely rewarding discography, but dreamtime is probably the closest to what youre looking for with this list. |
mystagogus
05.21.25 | Thanks Hyperion, will check!
Haha RVAHC I certainly know Lustmord but have always found Brian way too minimal to the point of being, how should I say it, less than exciting. But thanks for rec anyway! |
normaloctagon
05.21.25 | Gr8 list |
mystagogus
05.21.25 | Hawks yeah 1 is a must! |
mystagogus
05.21.25 | Whoa thanks for the feature, glad if you find something, enjoy guys! |
RVAHC13
05.21.25 | Oh sry lol. Well I guess you can give Max Corbacho’s Ars Lucis a try. His Nocturnes albums are more natural sounding but it looks like nobody has added them to his page yet. |
mystagogus
05.21.25 | Max Corbacho sounds like exactly what I'm looking for, thanks a lot! |
RVAHC13
05.21.25 | No thank you for all this new stuff to listen to |
Butkuiss
05.22.25 | Always looking for shit like this to sleep to, so thank you for the list!
May I second Roach and Corbacho (though my Roach pick would be Mystic Chords) and also recommend Thom Brennan - Mist : ] |
0xME
05.22.25 | 1 is one of my favourite albums I discovered back during my Dungeon Synth binge, always nice to see it get some recognition |
budgie
05.22.25 | 5 is cool, same art as for all tid
iirc its supposed to be a depiction of the land of Ys where king arthur goes in death or something. maybe avalon |
budgie
05.22.25 | oh no its camelot ok |
0xME
05.22.25 | you might enjoy
Daniel Harris - Awaken
Depressive Silence - Depressive Silence II
Vinterdvala - Historien Om De Sju Trollgubbarna |
mystagogus
05.22.25 | Thanks Butkuiss!
0xME I've loved Finntroll and Moonsorrow since my teens but discovered this one the other week and it's on Sorvali level, top notch synth yeah. |
mystagogus
05.22.25 | Tried Depressive Silence recently but that felt too primitive/Casio for me, even though melodies are good but it's a bit too oldschool and "dungeon". Added anyway, thanks! |
mystagogus
05.22.25 | Yeah budgie 5 is my most favorite of late discoveries, synth with some personal touch don't know how to explain. |
Muzz79
05.22.25 | 2 come to mind
Elderwind - The Colder the Night
Nelecc - The Stars
Both excellent nature synth bm |
mystagogus
05.22.25 | Thanks Muzz, will check but I would prefer to keep this list BM-free for now, sorry and hope you don't mind. |
0xME
05.22.25 | not too surprised about your opinion on DS, but you should dig the other 2 more based on your description, especially 15 |
Sharenge
05.22.25 | since I see Steve Roach been mentioned, guess I'll throw in the obligatory Robert Rich mention... not sure what to rec as a starting place... he has a collab with Lustmord who I see was also mentioned above, which if I remember correctly was my introduction to his works and is probably one of his works which receives the most attention - Stalker - inspired by and named after the Tarkovsky film (which also has a big nature theme) |
jrlikestodance
05.22.25 | Never heard of nature synth. Sounds heady |
mystagogus
05.22.25 | Haha yeah Roach and Rich always go hand in hand, I recall giving that collab with Lustmord a try years ago but it's time for one more attempt, thanks.
I'm actually huge fan of Edward Artemiev who authored the original Stalker OST among other films by Tarkovsky, and it borders the synthy territory: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DY4WkvdN0ro |
mystagogus
05.22.25 | jrlikestodance that's why I keep all those "nature/winter synths" in quotes, yet the intention is to separate it from the "dungeon" stuff all Burzums and other Mortiises called "music". |
TheSonomaDude
05.22.25 | 17 is great |
DrGonzo1937
05.24.25 | Love this. I’ll definitely check this out. |
Egarran
05.24.25 | Secludja - Stilled
Solo EP from Steve Merry of Be'Lakor, is lovely. |
Pho3nix
05.24.25 | Nice list actually - I've had that Shire Oak release on my wish list forever, maybe today I will go through some of them and buy a bunch ^^
You need to czech 'Enchantment of the Ring' by Secret Stairways in case you haven't yet. It is considered a hallmark and a definitive release in the genre. Meadow Grove is a bit of a hit and miss for me. Örnatorpet is great, 'Hymner från Snökulla' being my fave release.
Here are some of my faves in no particular order:
https://satchelbearer.bandcamp.com/album/the-dead-leaves-strew-the-forest-walk (This one is pretty folk-y)
https://myrrys.bandcamp.com/album/talven-reunalla (Another Finnish release, minimalistic autumn / winter synth)
https://snowspire.bandcamp.com/album/solace-among-the-spruce-sorrow-among-the-snow (My go-to winter synth record)
https://stenchovdeath.bandcamp.com/album/ursa-stories-of-the-bears (Bear-synth)
https://auramerlin.bandcamp.com/album/3-swords (Simply, one of the best)
https://forgottenghost.bandcamp.com/album/journeys-of-a-lone-wanderer (Mellow and folk-y)
https://mystiskaskogen.bandcamp.com/album/mystiska-skogen (Perfection)
https://allochnathir.bandcamp.com/album/the-emerald-grotto-2 (Nostalgic, romantic, Nordic)
https://forestofyore.bandcamp.com/album/nature-and-solitude (Forest of Yore has to be included, a classic for me!)
https://stenchovdeath.bandcamp.com/album/nibelung-the-lonely-wood (Extremely primitive, with field recording elements)
https://neverwood.bandcamp.com/album/in-the-morning-of-the-world (Minimalistic)
https://gladekeeper.bandcamp.com/album/yearntale (More of a comfy synth record, but still cute)
https://heimatderkatastrophe.bandcamp.com/album/hdk-93-utflykter-i-den-svenska-skogen (Wild card... this is a weird one, but in a good way!) |
mystagogus
05.24.25 | Egarran added, thanks!
Pho3enix thanks for a bag full of gems! Will add one by one once I get to them. |

BallsToTheWall
05.25.25 | Sold! 11/10 list. |
mystagogus
05.25.25 | someone yeah that's certainly a modern classic, I even genuinely like it but that's a bit different story. Pity the genre emerged after I started school though...
Thanks Balls, enjoy! |
garas
05.27.25 | Oh
