Insomnium ranked

Seeing them tonight with Omnium Gatherum. I'll be the one in black drinking a beer
1Insomnium
Heart Like a Grave

The peak of Insomnium songwriting and ultimately the most complete record in their discography. The measured aggression fusing with the melancholic melodies results in a compelling listen front to back and up there with the very best in the genre.
4.7
2Insomnium
Winter's Gate

Probably the most emotive and heavy hitting of their discography and in many ways the quintessential Insomnium album.
4.6
3Insomnium
Anno 1696

Melodies and songs are strong but slightly let down by the mix. If the drums were crisper this would enhance but that’s an observation for a lot of the discography. The EPs released either side of the LP are as good if not better.
4.5
4Insomnium
Across the Dark

The first album after Winters Gate that captured my interest. The shift to a more powerful melancholic sound from its predecessors with more memorable melodies and some clean gothic vocals really suit the band.
4.4
5Insomnium
Shadows of the Dying Sun

With the bar set high by probably the 2 most iconic Insomnium tracks ever to open the album, the rest of the album delivers with inspired melancholic melodeath songs.
4.0
6Insomnium
Above the Weeping World

Tries hard to be an epic melodeath album but again let down by rough production. Good, not great songs.
3.2
7Insomnium
In the Halls of Awaiting

A bit ho hum. Mix is not great but a good debut.
3.0
8Insomnium
One for Sorrow

Hurt by the muddy mix however this starts well through the opening 2 tracks but from there for whatever reason the songs on this fail to stir. For me this is mid Insomnium.
2.8
9Insomnium
Since the Day It All Came Down

I don't buy into this being one of their best. For me they're average songs buried under a below average mix.
2.5
