| Reviewing my book, needs recs
So, I wrote a book and I'm now about 3/4 done with the incredibly tedious back-to-back reviewing. So music to ease up the monotony would be welcome, as long as it fits the tone of the vision I'm trying to translate. In this list you will be able to find some of the stuff I've been listening to while working. | 1 | | Neurosis Through Silver In Blood | 2 | | Omega Massif Karpatia | 3 | | Neurosis Times Of Grace | 4 | | All the Empires of the World Return | 5 | | A Storm Of Light Forgive Us Our Trespasses | 6 | | Old Man Gloom The Ape of God I | 7 | | The Fall Of Every Season From Below | 8 | | Evoken A Caress of the Void | 9 | | My Dying Bride Turn Loose the Swans
Vercetti | 10 | | The Pax Cecilia Blessed Are The Bonds
CugnoBrasso | 11 | | Ahab The Boats Of The Glen Carrig
Azazzel, this is my favourite Ahab album and I did listen to this about halfway through the book. Worth adding so I can comeback. The big issue with creating a story is how absorbed you become while working on it, so I've been very forgetful for the last 6 months, I need all of my plot points and character traits in notes pinned right in front of the computer, what a mess. Anyway, fenomenal album, the first track alone is absolutely beautiful | 12 | | Esoteric Paragon of Dissonance
Azazzel | 13 | | Ataraxie Slow Transcending Agony
Azazzel, I used to listen to this one back in the day. Another album I forgot about | 14 | | Mitochondrion Archaeaeon
Azazzel, this could do it for me, I do like this band a lot. | 15 | | Ulcerate The Destroyers of All
Azazzel, I love this band, specially the drumming, but that may be the main reason to avoid it while writing, its very punchy and abrasive, which can easily overwhelm my ideas. I could use this while drafting, maybe. | 16 | | Panzerfaust The Suns Of Perdition - Chapter IV: To Shadow Zion
Azazzel | 17 | | Aeviterne The Ailing Facade
Azazzel | 18 | | A Storm of Light/Nadja Primitive North
Azazzel | 19 | | Rorcal Silence
Azazzel | 20 | | Moonspell Night Eternal
pizzamachine, a Portuguese band for a Portuguese book, seems fitting. I've never heard this in full but the t/t was very good | 21 | | Fires in the Distance Air Not Meant for Us
Hawks | 22 | | October Tide Rain Without End
Hawks | 23 | | Hooded Menace Fulfill the Curse
Hawks, I LOVE this band. I see you're bringing in some Doom which fits right in with the tone of the book | 24 | | Novembers Doom The Novella Reservoir
Hawks | 25 | | Draconian Arcane Rain Fell
Hawks, this is my favourite from them | 26 | | Swallow the Sun The Morning Never Came
Hawks, I did listen to Songs from the North while reviewing, but this was one of those albums that I used to listen a LOT back in the day. Thanks m/ | 27 | | Daylight Dies Dismantling Devotion
Hawks, one of my favourites of all time | 28 | | Dusk Majestic Thou in Ruin
Hawks | 29 | | Tristania Beyond the Veil
Hawks | 30 | | Vladislav Delay Entain

JohnnyoftheWell | 32 | | Tim Hecker Radio Amor
JohnnyoftheWell | 33 | | Basic Channel Quadrant Dub
JohnnyoftheWell | 34 | | Evan Marc and Steve Hillage Dreamtime Submersible

04.13.25 | The book itself contains a very grim, eerie and ridiculously violent story about the future of mankind, a LOT of "The Road" vibes, so I need music that's both hard on the atmosphere while also being relentlessly heavy but not abrasive enough to drown my own thoughts.
Thanks! | Vercetti
04.13.25 | My Dying Bride - Turn Loose the Swans | Shuyin
04.13.25 | Haven't listened to MDB in a very long time, thank you | CugnoBrasso
04.13.25 | The Pax Cecilia maybe? | Azazzel
04.13.25 | so much post-metal and atmo-sludge for so little Doom in your taste, curious. seems well suited to the task too with the right vocals. Ahab, Esoteric, Ataraxie anything like that? looks like you've flirted with some dissonant cross over albums but you might dive into the contemporary straight disso-black/death pool like that Mitochondrion you loved last list. A lot of it has a post/sludge base and feels like the natural evolution with you know subsumed hoarse vocals, maximalist textures and emphasis on structure but instead of crescendo catharsis is more like a deferred state of contingent stability, tension and resolution. Ulcerate is a great example but I'm also thinking of like recent Blut Aus Nord, Panzerfaust, Aeviterne.
there's a Storm of Light/Nadja split from back in the day that's solid if you missed
Rorcal's latest is best since Heliogabalus from last list
| pizzamachine
04.13.25 | Moonspell - Night Eternal | Shuyin
04.13.25 | Azazzel, that was spot on, I did listen to a LOT of BAN and DsO when writing the first 2 chapters of the book and it worked like a charm. I had a vague idea of what I wanted to do but the story, world and characters wren't exactly fleshed out, and the new sounds of BAN, specially the Disarmonium albums and Deus Salutis were very important while treading the waters of uncertainty, it kept things mysterious and made it easier for me to word what was on my mind while also keeping me in the mood to be even more weird and creative. Good choices, I'll definitely check that SoL split and Rorcal.
Thanks everyone, adding the recs now
In case you're wondering, I'm at page 231 of 267. But I feel as if some of the dialogue could use some extra polishing so I will be tweaking things here and there even when done with the full review.

04.13.25 | Shuyin what are your literary inspirations? grimdark fantasy, apocalypse fiction, bleak realism like McCarthy? | Shuyin
04.13.25 | So many to name, firstly I love sci fi so I'll have to name Philip Dick for his surreal, psychedelic ventures, Isaac Azimov with his vision for the future and the role of robots, and lastly Arthur Clark who I think was a genius when it came to the construction of alien and bizarre concepts without spoiling too much, keeping the sense of wonder alive even when you're done with his novels. I also read a lot of manga and another two authors come to mind, firstly Kentaru Miura for his work on Berserk, he created a massive, dark, visceral story without compromise; the other would be Tsutomu Nihei for his work on Blame! which is a unique experience oozing with creativity.
I also take in a lot of that surreal aspect of something like the Unconsoled by Kazuo Ishiguro and The Tenant by Roland Tupor, and I absolutely LOVE stuff like 1984, Animal Farm, Manuscrito Cuervo-Historia de Jacobo and Brave New World.
Guess I enjoy creative works and tackling social aspects, even about how primitive and barbaric the human being can be (this is a major theme in my book btw)
Will add the new recs tomorrow, I really need to get some rest, thanks everyone. gn | DominionMM1
