| My Dying Bride Discography Part 1
Taking an opportunity to delve into this band for the first time, in chronological order. For decades i’ve only known For Lies I Sire, Barghest O’ Whitby, and Songs of Darkness, Words of Light; all albums that i really love, but i’ve never taken the time to explore them beyond those. | | 1 | | My Dying Bride As The Flower Withers
This is a good album, with some great riffs sprinkled all over it. It’s heavy and a bit depressing, but for me this didn’t do much. It feels very same-y, and the lack of variety and no clean vocals makes this one i probably won’t revisit. The vibe is palpable though, and i can appreciate what it does do. I just like my death metal to be faster
3/5 respect it | | 2 | | My Dying Bride Turn Loose The Swans
This is one i have to listen to again. I enjoyed it well enough, but some of it didn’t stand out as much as their other stuff. The vocal melodies didn’t stick as well as i wanted / expected them to. But holy shit the riffs and atmosphere on here are next level. This is a deeply haunted, excruciatingly dark album.
4/5 will probably grow on me when i’m more familiar | | 3 | | My Dying Bride The Angel And The Dark River
This floored me. Melodies, riffs, compositions, instrumental elements. This thing is so dark and somber, and reading the booklet in a dark room while looking at the art transported me to a deeply painful, scary place. This is one of the best album experiences i’ve ever had, and i’ve been revisiting it constantly this last week. Not sure if i can commit to a 5 yet though, until i’ve heard the rest of what the band has to offer. Otherwise it feels like an easy 5.
4.7/5 | | 4 | | My Dying Bride Like Gods Of The Sun
This feels like such a huge jump for the band realizing their sound. This is exactly what i expect to hear from the band. The songwriting, the vocals, the production, all fantastic and densely atmospheric. The artwork and booklet reminded me a lot of Silent Hill 2 and i feel like that was a fitting parallel to the vibe of the album.
There are so many memorable tracks and riffs on here, and maybe a few didn’t live up to that standard, but the majority is fucking phenomenal. I was knocked on my ass by how good this was, and i’m beyond excited to dive into the next albums.

04.06.25 | Don’t typically set aside time to sit in a dark room and focus entirely on an album, but i’ve been doing that with these, while reading along to the CD booklets. This is very quickly becoming one of my new favorite bands. What’s everyone’s favorite MDB album?
For me, it’s always been Barghest O’ Whitby, which is one of the most underrated metal releases i can think of. Excited to get to that point in their discography | Hawks
