03.03.25 | I pretty much couldn't do Work Jobs until I switched to something I really feel attached to personally, which is teaching. I was a mess missing days leaving early not getting shit done etc. until then
It is a bit sad to hear that you actually liked the job, though. My logic brain tells me that the three options are to find a job where they wont care that that stuff happens to you (unlikely, or maybe moreso not worth considering), to find a job that you like whereas secretly you maybe didnt like this one (SEEMS unlikely, as well), or to find strategies to mitigate unrelated panic attacks and the like so you can keep jobs that you do actually like, like this one...
But overall it's not the end of the world. I once got fired from a low-paying film publicity thing and it's just kinda unacknowledged lol, extended the time I "substitute taught" a bit on my resume to cover for it. You'll find something else but it is worth thinking about how/why this happened
Sucks ass to get blindsided I've been there. Best of luck yo |

03.03.25 | Really sorry to hear that man. It’s total bullshit not to tell you at the beginning of your shift. Keep on keeping on, something better will come along. |
Wildcardbitchesss
03.03.25 | Literally just had the worst panic attack of my life after finding out a friend died and totaled my car, I get it man. It’s shitty as fuck for them to do that. I’m so sorry. |
BallsToTheWall
03.03.25 | For some time I was
Consumed with bitterness after getting blindsided like that, getting fired the day after spitting up blood in the parking lot. And then after that found a new job and on day 1 of getting trained I was getting screamed at and quit mid shift day 1. Those experiences alone made me resent the city I was in and the people that lived there for no reason. Don’t be bitter, just shrug it off and keep chugging along. I have to play catchup but that’s on me. Don’t get filled with hate. |
brickhed
03.03.25 | yeah, I can feel the whole bad luck thing. For me it feels like Murphy's Law creeps around all throughout my life. All you can do is just try to move on. I've been forced to adapt almost constantly.
My whole motto is go with the flow, since it's all you can do. I completely get it if it's really difficult, especially with depression and anxiety issues. I would think about just working on that and going from there. There's got to be someone in person to talk to. I wouldn't recommend therapists, but i personally keep the friends i can rely on the most the closest.
I also use music and books as my main forms of escapism with stuff like this. |

03.03.25 | Sorry to hear. Best of luck, you got this |

03.03.25 | Sorry to hear my guy. I know one of my coworkers went to her PCP to get a doctor’s reference for a certain number of allowed callouts a month for anxiety reasons. May be worth doing that to protect yourself wherever you end up. |

03.03.25 | Getting a job nowadays is very hard, and maintaining it is about as hard. I don't understand the state of the work field at all. Sorry this happened to you |

03.03.25 | Sorry to hear that. Hope you'll be fine |

03.03.25 | Has happened to me more times than I can count bro. I also have ADHD so I get what you're going through. Getting medicated/therapy has to be your first step. I still have my moments but it has helped immensely. |

03.03.25 | I really, truly appreciate the solidarity and best wishes everyone. I really do love this place and it has been a part of me for over half my life so it just seemed a "normal" thing to share here.
And hey Egarran, that's SUPER cool and thank you so much! Glad you enjoy it! :D |

03.03.25 | How long did you work there, had you declared your conditions?
Sounds like a pay out to me.
Unless you strangled one of the dogs. |
Hyperion1001
03.03.25 | if hes in the US we have a thing called "right to work" which means you can be fired at any time for any reason with no notice. so unless he can prove discrimination of some sort (extremely hard to do) he probably doesnt have any recourse.
sorry to hear about all this buddy but youll bounce back. dont let it get you too down. its happened to all of us at some point probably unless youre very lucky. |
zakalwe
03.03.25 | Fired for any reason with no notice!
Fuck me. |
Hyperion1001
03.03.25 | sorry right to work is about not having unions, its at-will employment. but yeah unless you work for the government or sign a contract they can just can you whenever. |
ThyCrossAwaits
03.04.25 | Hype is unfortunately correct, it's right to work which means I can be fired at any time for almost anything.
I was on a "probationary period" from when I got locked out of my house and car a few weeks back (I freaked out, kinda deserved the probation) but I really didn't think THIS was that bad. I honestly thought things were getting BETTER. I'd only been there since January... |

03.04.25 | non-contracted work!

03.04.25 | In the long run it’s probably a good thing mate, fuck ‘em. |
ThyCrossAwaits
03.04.25 | It's a real crap system. The thing is the manager probably would've vouched to keep me but the OWNER just...didn't like me for some reason. Every time we'd have a discussion with the probation and when I got fired today it was done by the manager even though it was the boss' decision and signature on the termination letter. Dumb. |
Scoot
03.04.25 | i sympathize greatly with this - anxiety and ADHD almost ruined my career. i work in the mechanical engineering space with people who are exactly the opposite of me |

03.04.25 | Jobs demand so much out of you and guilt trip you if you're not 100% every day. Sorry you lost your job and good luck in getting your next. Hopefully your next boss is a bit more understanding and chill. |
ThyCrossAwaits
03.04.25 | ^THIS
I had car troubles and they'd demand I show up and stay later like a teenager in school. It's a "small company" so the needs of the worker to be able to actually show up don't matter. They asked me to use my monthly incentive to pay Lyft to get to work and treated it like a bonus that I was able to do that. Literally two minutes of me being late was terrible (legit got called out for this) but also I had to work 8.5 hours a day because god forbid anybody pay for a 30-minute lunch. America sucks. |
Dedes
03.04.25 | Motherfuckers really expect a lot of dedication for what little respect they give lmao, you'll find somewhere better my guy |
Jurtz
03.04.25 | That must be illegal, right? Oh wait, it's the U.S.A. They can fire you for whatever reason at any time. Terrible. I'm sorry this happened to you. |
Dedes
03.04.25 | It's a scary prospect.
It happened in my own company albeit I think they gave the man a day or two notice, but said person was a supervisor of our first shift pressroom and had been with the company for over 25 years. Did so to make room for more workers in the bindery right after they tightened the fuck out of the hiring process including mandated drug testing now. My guy they stack fucking books how much do you think a little pot is gonna impede them |
osmark86
03.04.25 | "Fired for any reason with no notice!
Fuck me."
"non-contracted work!
Christ almighty."
Yes. Unions ain't so bad eh? |
Christbait
03.04.25 | As shitty as my state job can be at times, I'm at least thankful that once you move from probationary to permanent status it's almost impossible to lose your job (knocks on wood furiously). |
osmark86
03.04.25 | a little bit of job security goes a long way for people's mental states and ability to live decently |
Christbait
03.04.25 | Absolutely. But, it also results in complacency. I hear things about how it's not good to tie yourself to one job for years on end, but state employment really only ever offers lateral movement so your only recourse is to move into the private sector if you're looking for advancement. But I work in mental health so there isn't much of that anywhere. |
osmark86
03.04.25 | When I die I hope my epitaph says "he lived efficiently, always delivered shareholder value, never shirked a second's worth or went complacent".
A little complacency is fine every now and then if we want to live long enough to see our pensions ;) |
ThyCrossAwaits
03.04.25 | My dumb ass goes right into searching for almost the exact same job…
To be fair, what I was doing was training and watching after dogs in a very small-company position, so I wasn’t exactly screwed by a major corporation or anything. |
Egarran
03.04.25 | "Job security results in complacency." -E. Musk |
Christbait
03.04.25 | God don't compare me to Muskrat. I'll rephrase and say anecdotally. I don't want people comfortable in their jobs to ever feel unease for feeling that way. If coasting until retirement means I never "make a name for myself" or get my ego stroked then so be it. I can live with being a cog in some broken ass machine.
OP, if you loved what you did, regardless of shitty management, then there's no harm in going back into it. Do you think the previous job would be willing to write a recommendation letter just in case? |
Egarran
03.04.25 | Sorry, that was unfair.
Still,
> I can live with being a cog in some broken ass machine.
As an idealist this hurts me deeply. |
Christbait
03.04.25 | Yeah, spent a lot of time in therapy rationalizing a fact of life that comes with just getting older and developing wisdom. It's the acceptance of your position in life relative to what you thought you'd be or what the world told you you could be. |
ThyCrossAwaits
03.04.25 | Oh everything in the world is the result of bad averages. For some jackass people, certain aspects of job security allow them to take advantage and be complacent which drives employers to not offer those aspects to ANYONE to cover their bases. It's the same everywhere, anything that can be taken unfair advantage of is just outright denied to everyone because of the chance a small percentage of people would be/were asshats with it. And well...a decent percentage of people are asshats. |
osmark86
03.04.25 | I hear you Christbait and I was being a little snarky and tongue in cheek as well when you were clearly trying to be earnest, so my appolgies as well. You seem like your heart is in the right place. |
Christbait
03.04.25 | No worries, y'all are good. I can be more sincere than I need to be, but I get y'all are coming from a good place too.
OP, you deserve better accommodations and understanding for what you struggle with. I hope you find something that appreciates you and your abilities. Especially since you seem to like to work with animals. You're good people. |
ThyCrossAwaits
03.04.25 | For the record I've already secured an interview at a similar place that seems to have a better system for me. Fingers crossed it actually works out that way, but I'm also hopefully FINALLY getting help for my ADHD tomorrow so that should really put me in a much better place. |

03.05.25 | I just got on Adderall a few years ago after being diagnosed and it is a big deal. I won't say it's THE answer to all my problems but I'm a lot more fulfilled when I'm on it rather than off. 10 years of antidepressants before a Dr seemed to figure it out. She doesn't even work at the place anymore and it's some hippy guy from Texas now. |

SAME!! I didn't get diagnosed until I was 31. Still struggle but it has gotten way better. Still have my days though. |
