02.03.25 | Honestly the sharp increase in anti-lgbtq activism here the last couple of years has been highly alarming to me. We’ve politicians dog whistling the far right while attacking the provision of gender affirming care as well as abortion and mental health services, and anti-gay protestors marching through Newtown looking to assault queer people. The discourse is so poisonous and skewed that even nominally far-left wing members of my extended family have been sucked in by the “LGBT litter boxes in kindergarten classrooms” bullshit.
It worries me, and I’m a middle class straight white guy. I can’t imagine how it feels for my queer friends. I’ve noticed a definite change even in the last few months; this shit is affecting people in a way I didn’t even see during the plebiscite. |
