doom's 2024
Wow. What a year for music. |
| 1 | | Bilmuri American Motor Sports
The relentless hard work from Johnny has been pointing to this very moment. Written in the stars. Thirteen whopping albums in just a short time, dropping precursors here and there (COWPEOPLE, ABSOLUTELYCRANKINMYMF'INHOG, ACOWBOYSHEAVYLOAD, etc) this is Bilmuri’s final form and it’s immaculate. |
| 2 | | Saturdays at Your Place always cloudy
An accessible tasteful little EP. I wouldn't change a thing about it. It's perfect. |
| 3 | | Holding Absence The Noble Art of Self-Destruction
This album is very watered down compared to previous attempts, and ironically it just works. Even vocalists Lucas Woodland did a complete overhaul on his voice and stopped straining with every note probably looking out for his longevity. And once again, it all just compliments each other. Proving that you don’t need that extra oomph to make great post hardcore. Good to see there are still bands out there carrying the Emarosa/ Hands Like Houses legacy. My favorite brand of Post hc. Also, call me weird but the album art works reminds be so much of Underoath and it gives the album a couple extra brownie points in my book. |
| 4 | | Real Friends Blue Hour
When it's all said and done, this might just be one of my fave albums ever. "I Was a Deer In Your Headlights" is a straight up anthem and "Cold Blooded" deserves mainstream attention. And everything in between is damn near perfect. Lyrics are a tad corny but is delivered with so much raw emotion it will absolutely make you sway. These guys were hurt over something while writing this record and you can feel it. Oh, did I mention this is their first attempt at going heavy af? They nailed it. |
| 5 | | Spiritbox The Fear of Fear
Fumbled with Rotoscope. Came back stronger than ever with this one though.
*oh shit this came out last year nevermind |
| 6 | | Invent Animate Heavener (Definitive)
Couple new awesome tracks to one of my favorite metalcore releases in recent memory. |
| 7 | | State Faults Children of the Moon
Soak it in, fellas. Over thirty years of Emo and Post hc has been leading up to this one single conceivable moment right here. Wow what a time to be alive. |
| 8 | | Frail Body Artificial Bouquet
Sounds like Sunbather so yeah |
| 9 | | Touche Amore Spiral in a Straight Line
a little disappointing but it's Touche Amore so yeah. Arguably one of their more melodic efforts. |
| 10 | | Balance and Composure with you in spirit
Disappointing but it's Balance and Composure so yeah. Could not capitalize after releasing the triumphant "Too Quick to Forgive" split but hey, at least they're still together. |
| 11 | | Convictions The Fear of God
Junz for Jesus optimize for 2024.
The coastal glow is just a gorgeous track. Maybe song of the year for me! |
| 12 | | Poppy Negative Spaces
Most of this is to be expected. Jordan Fish putting on the finishing touches to Poppy's new record because she listened to a Spiritbox album and decided to take a shot at it. Oh, and don’t forget to add in a track that sound like Deftones in there too because that's also what everyone is doing nowadays. One positive is a potential new trend via “They’re all Around Us” It’s exactly what I’ve been patiently waiting for someone to pull off. Getting back to 2010-core. The guitars are tuned to Suicide Season and it has a huge OG Loko-esque breakdown. Most bands will inevitably revert back to this once they’re done playing Sumeriancore to ad nauseam. |
| 13 | | nothing,nowhere. Hell Or Highwater |
| 14 | | Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows Until God Shows |
| 15 | | Wishy Triple Seven |
| 16 | | Chelsea Wolfe She Reaches Out to She Reaches Out to She |
| 17 | | Charli XCX Brat
The amount of attention this has gotten is gross, but it kinda sounds like Big Fish Theory so it's kinda cool |
| 18 | | Saidan Visual Kill: The Blossoming of Psychotic Depravity
Literally can't even articulate this. It's like a whole new world of awesome for me. |
| 19 | | Marilyn Manson One Assassination Under God - Chapter 1
lol album is goofy. He will literally sound great one second and in the same breath his voice will give out. Nonetheless great imagery. Some very accessible tracks mixed with other tracks that will bring back the nostalgia. Absolutely great attempt. |
| 20 | | Ben Quad Ephemera
Forgettable band. That is until they released their stand alone single "You're part of it." Pretty much a hell of an homage to The Fall of Troy and They're Only Chasing Safety.
Boy was I tickled when I found out they were brewing up a whole EP in the mold of it. Every track is better than the last. I hope they never go back to midwestern emo. |
| 21 | | The Story So Far I Want to Disappear
You know when every band makes a bold claim about their upcoming album promising a “mature” and “evolved” sound and it just turns out to be a sad attempt at landing the billboards 200? Well, TSSF is prob one of the few bands to actually keep their promise. There is an uncanny competence brimming from this record. I actually had no desire to listen to this, I thought I was pretty much done with this band after the lead vocalist assaulted a fan at their show. But gah dayum, spinning this record warped me straight back to 2011. This band sure has had their ups and downs since dropping their sophomore, but this record shows the band crossing their Ts and dotting their Is. They have never sounded more tight. I love it. |
| 22 | | The Cure Songs of a Lost World
The Cure dropping an album in 2024 is actually wild |
| 23 | | The Offspring Supercharged
I'm only putting this here so we can laugh at the horrendous album art lmao |
