12.03.24 | Aside from the most obvious picks (Blue Cheer, Iron Butterfly, Vanilla Fudge, SLB, Grand Funk), my old man always swore by Slade’s Alive. MC5’s KOTJ was always my favourite of that heavy psych era.
As far as obscure goes:
Stray - Stray
Budgie - Budgie
Gun - Gun

12.03.24 | Aside from the bands mentioned above, Spooky Tooth *Two* is worth mentioning (Judas Priest covered one of their tunes), and Hawkwind's early albums with Lemmy (In Search of Space, Doremi Fasol Latido, Hall of the Mountain Grill, and Warrior on the Edge of Time). Doremi is probably the heaviest. Then there's the live album Space Ritual, which is even heavier, the heaviest thing the 70s produced outside of Sabbath. I mention Hawkwind because although not obscure most people simply assign them to space rock. |
