11.28.24 | Piknik shoutout, y’all need to stop sleeping on this band. A lot of Russian music in general is fantastic but has barely any traction over seas.
So what are some other bands / albums that are notable but don’t have a lot of pull in the states? |

11.29.24 | def a blind spot for me. not something i seek out as it is sometimes hard to connect through a language barrier.
but if you like midwest emo/post-hardcore check out the new bird bone album from russia! easy to connect emotionally with the great vocal performance even though the lyrics are all in russian. 2024 release as well for those interested in cramming before year end.
a couple more russian ones fully in the language i've heard (a country that seems to usually keep their language instead of english)
my autumn- oblivion era (hard myspace era deathcore)
aposepsy- aposepsy (crazy experimental brutal dm/goregrind)
show me a dinosaur- show me a dinosaur (pretty great atmospheric blackgaze)
oh and for something chinese, older chinese football is solid american football worship |

11.29.24 | First band that comes to mind is Kobong. They were a polish progressive metal band that was pretty ahead of their time. Band came out with two albums before they broke up.
Really sad that at least Chmury nie było never got any international attention since I consider it a masterpiece. Also people for some reason think they were inspired by Meshugga even though when Kobong broke up Meshugga came out with their first album and ep.
Second band would be a one time band collaboration between French bands Ni and PoiL, named PinioL. Their only album Bran Coucou is another masterpiece of an album that's buried. It's my favorite prog album of all time, which I think means something. |
arthropod
11.29.24 | Thy Worshiper - Czarna Dzika Czerwień
Polish black/folk metal.
Kombi - Nowy Rozdział
Polish 80's synthpop.

Belarussian doomy folk metal. Lipka is in Polish. |
SomeCallMeTim
11.29.24 | Os Mutantes - A Divina Comédia ou Ando Meio Desligado
awesome psychedelic rock |
ItsTheSquirrel
11.30.24 | Stam1na in general is one of the best Finnish metal bands, but specificially I'd say Uudet kymmenen käskyä is probably their best album. It's kind of proggy/techy thrash metal with alt metal influences, which I know sounds unappealing but they combine the different styles really well |
CugnoBrasso
11.30.24 | An Italian noise rock band from the mid 2000s gained semi-legendary status over the years (with members from Buñuel) and they just announced a reunion tour.

TheSupernatural
12.01.24 | Joliette - Principia (post-hardcore in Spanish)
The Hirsch Effekt - Holon: Anamnesis (prog metal/mathcore in German)
Ojne - Sogno #3 (skramz in Italian)
Пекинский Велосипед - Не хочу забывать (midwest emo in Russian - you can look them on her under Pekin Bike)
Definitely recommend the whole emo scene in Russia/Belarus |

12.04.24 | Dodheimsgard- Black Medium Currant is a great Norweigan weird black metal album.
Caesaria Evora- Cafe Atlantico is salsa/cumbia music that i grew up hearing.
PoiL is a really cool, bizarre French prog/zeuhl band. Havent heard any albums of theirs, just songs.
