10.21.24 | A map of all our failures -My dying Bride. The lyrics arent just depressing the long drawl of the song itself is just melancholic like the long drawn out moment of despair. |

10.21.24 | Yeah Warning's stuff is pretty sad.
Life (TX) - Eleven. Starts off nice and melancholic, a little longing and dreaming sounding, but it goes and it builds and it feels like the song is about having to let go of someone you really don't want to. |

10.21.24 | Some good recommendations here
Although Purple mountains are a prime example of music that’s lyrically and thematically devastating as hell considering it’s essentially a suicide note but musically it’s quite upbeat for the most part |

EphemeralEternity
10.22.24 | @mystagogue it’s not the saddest by a long shot and the story it’s based on (Edward Shackletons doomed arctic expedition) ultimately had a happy ending because somehow none of the crew died but that song captures the hopelessness they must have been experiencing |
efp123
10.22.24 | long beard - countless |

Anathema - One Last Goodbye
Chat Pile - grimace_smoking_weed.jpeg
all these come to mind |
EphemeralEternity
10.22.24 | I know grimace is about a psychotic suicidal dude but it never struck me as depressing to listen to in fact the demo version that had some more growling sections which I missed in the album version is on my workout playlist
And behind blue eyes is a sad tune but knowing it was sung by Fred durst I just can’t take it seriously
Anyway I’ve got a lot of songs to check out |
Havey
10.22.24 | only bad music can be truly depressing imo
deathprod is the goat of lugubrious tho |
PunkerBlast
10.22.24 | I saw this on Gamefaqs and I kinda smirk and it's strange because I know a lot of depressing songs, but it depends on the song. The band 'I Hate Myself' has a lot of downer songs. But the LP I actually own probably depresses me because all their best songs are on their EPS!!! AH AHA AHA
Following up, just I don't like to try to out depress ppl anymore even though I still can. This was more fun a decade ago playing the Secret World even and this was a happy depression. |
furpa
10.22.24 | I legit think that Gratitude off the new Foxing LP has some of the most nihilistic lyrics of any song in recent memory for me. It speaks to the state of mind when you're depressed and just don't give a fuck about anything and want to haze over and be grey. Goes for a few other songs on that album as well, lyrically very depressing. |
anode
10.22.24 | I haven’t listened to it cause I can’t handle indie but I bet transgender by crystal castles wins the nihilist award |

10.22.24 | Soundtracks feel almost like cheating since they're so entwined with the memories of the show/series/game but some off the top of my head
Mass effect - an end once and for all
Skyrim - Kyne' peace
Halo 2 - Heavy price paid
Hollow knight - dirtmouth
Majoras Mask - Song of healing
The last of us - All gone
Butterfly effect - Kayleigh's funeral (shame ashton kutcher is a shitstain)
The Divide - Running after my fate (underrated survival psych horror film)
LOST - life and death (I will defend this as one of the greatest tv shows of all time which paved the way for the golden era of television)
Full metal alchemist - Kyoudai |

10.22.24 | dismemberment plan - the jitters

10.23.24 | Left field nomination for a really depressing song - Cat's in the Cradle by Harry Chapin |
PunkerBlast
10.23.24 | Someone mentioned a Saddest Landscape and gah I do have to note that now. It's screamo, and a lot of the songs can sound the same but the After the Lights album is really good and feels more varied. Anyways just to throw it out there. The Saddest Landscape - When Everything Seemed to Matter. Is depressing. I don't know their lyrics perfectly because I only have their digital albums, but a title like that and the band name seem to tend into the nihilistic feelings without just being droning. :/ I shouldn't have re-visited this, but someone had to mention the Saddest Landscape.
Saetia can be sad too. I used to listen to a lot of this stuff while playing The Secret World, and I was content. I'll stop right here. I don't want to go on a mind trip. |

10.23.24 | Is 18 Cryo Chamber. I like their stuff. I considered buying a t-shirt but eh I just a lot of that is really good on that label, but there are so many times sometimes how much dark ambient can play out. I do like that label a lot though. It's not apart of them at all but ASC (James Clement) Why do I remember that put out a lot of dark ambient music too and club dnb too. Gosh that 2014's coming all back to me now |
EphemeralEternity
10.23.24 | Yeah Cryo Chamber, and while their releases are usually pretty good dark ambience they've got so many that they do blend together and become forgettable.
Council of nine - Trinity is a good one that's on the sad side

10.23.24 | I'm relistening to Crow looked at me and it's hitting a lot harder than it did before , strangely even though I could appreciate the authenticity given the context it didn't move me very much when I first heard it... maybe now having first hand experience with the loss of a family member is what's doing it
I'm impressed he could still write in that headspace |
FowlKrietzsche
10.23.24 | Its nearly untouchable when I'm grieving but I can simultaneously only listen to it when grieving, but yeah idk if it would mean nearly as much without experiencing loss |
