| [Remade] Discog Run Returns!
So I’m an idiot that didn’t store his lists on a Word doc, and accidentally deleted my thread restarting my Discog Run challenge. So here we go, take 2! I’m planning to run through the discographies of 26 artists! This list will compile my thoughts on these artists. I’ll be giving each album/EP a 1-5 rating, and then give my thoughts on the overall artist’s discography, giving their discog an A-F grade.
Oh, and I’m not taking any recs! This list has been finalized since January, I’d just been too busy with life to get around to properly doing it. | | 1 | | Palm Reader Palm Reader

Palm Reader - 3.5
Bad Weather - 4
Beside the Ones We Love - 4
Braille - 4.5
Sleepless - 4.5
Palm Reader is one of those bands that manages to improve upon themselves more and more with each successive release. There aren't really any dips in their discography, it just gets better and better the further you go. They don't ever sacrifice their heaviness either, even as they add more melodic elements into the mix. All of it leads to Braille and Sleepless, which might have become two of my favorite core albums of all time.

Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It - 5
Where Myth Becomes Memory - 4.5
Not gonna lie, while their earlier work isn't bad, Rolo Tomassi's albums up to Cosmology were way rougher listens than I was expecting. I'd only heard singles from their latest albums, so to say I wasn't expecting the borderline Nintendo-core electronics and the far more chaotic mathcore present on their first three releases was an understatement. Again, they aren't bad, but holy shit it caught me off guard. The band really found their footing on Astraea, the electronics became more ambient, there was more focus on Eva's cleans, and the transitions became a lot smoother. This lead nicely into Time Will Die, the band's utter masterpiece, perfectly ethereal and creepy and cuttingly heavy. But again, that early stuff may be a rougher listen for those like me who were brought in through the band's newest works.
Discog Grade: A- | | 3 | | Counterparts Prophets
Rec'd by 0xME
Prophets - 2.5
The Current Will Carry Us - 3
The Difference Between Hell and Home - 3
Tragedy Will Find Us - 4
You're Not You Anymore - 4.5
Nothing Left to Love - 4.5
A Eulogy for Those Still Here - 5
Heaven Let Them Die - 4.5
Just like with Rolo, I took a bit to warm up to Counterparts. A lot of their early material is very samey, and the albums felt like they took way longer to get through than they actually did. But once you hit Tragedy onward, it's all gravy. The melodic leads got better, Brendan's vocals and lyrics improved by a mile, and the band got wayy better at trimming out the fat. But holy shit, those early albums really sour my opinions on the discography as a whole. My fav from them is probably either Eulogy or YNYA, Eulogy for genuinely experimenting with the Counterparts formula, if only minutely, and YNYA for being pure Counterparts without any fat on the bone.

10.14.24 | Okay, take 2 on this. I’m starting Counterparts today hopefully, I’ve seen equal amounts of love and hate for them! I’ll refill my rankings for Palm Reader and Rolo Tomassi soon.
Store your shit in Word or Google Drive, people | ToSmokMuzyki
10.14.24 | discog bathory | AnimalForce1
10.14.24 | No recs being taken rn! But I'll probably check them out in the interim, maybe I'll do a full discog run one day | 0xME
10.15.24 | reasonable ratings so far, I'm looking forward to the next one! | someone
10.15.24 | Listen to Ka | 0xME
11.01.24 | I still believe | JohnnyoftheWell
11.01.24 | appropriate band to drop the ball on | 0xME
11.01.24 | agree to disagree | AnimalForce1
11.02.24 | It's coming gang! GRE prep got to me pretty badly, I'll be restarting this tomorrow when I wake up | AnimalForce1
11.02.24 | For what it's worth, I did manage to get through Prophets before shit hit the fan, didn't leave too much of an impression on me | Drifter
11.02.24 | Suga Free | 0xME
11.02.24 | That makes sense, imo they really hit their stride with Tragedy onwards | AnimalForce1
11.02.24 | The stuff I heard from Nothing Left to Love and Tragedy prior to starting are the Counterparts I'm more familiar with. This early stuff is a bit more generic melodic hardcore for my liking, doesn't stand out to me. I'm looking forward to hitting Tragedy though | AnimalForce1
11.02.24 | I will say, right off the bat, Current is sticking out a bit more, some more interesting riffs and better vocals from Brendan | AnimalForce1
11.03.24 | I also already prefer Difference Between Hell and Home. This is the Counterparts I’m more familiar with | 0xME
11.03.24 | m/ | AnimalForce1
11.05.24 | Just like Rolo Tomassi, I didn't fully get the hype until Tragedy. That album was way tighter in terms of songwriting, lyrics were closer to modern-day Counterparts, and Brendan's vocals got so much better.
The earlier albums really play their hand super early, and the songs feel way longer than they actually are | 0xME
11.05.24 | that is a very reasonable sentiment, although those early albums still have their moments for me eg The Disconnect which still appears to be a mainstay in their live sets. Still nice to see that they were able to create their own sound instead of staying a Misery Signals cover band | AnimalForce1
11.06.24 | There are moments, but those moments were largely buried for me under a very big wave of sameness | AnimalForce1
11.06.24 | You're Not You Anymore was their strongest album yet, it's Counterparts with all the fat trimmed off. That being said, Your Own Knife might be my favorite track from them as of right now | AnimalForce1
11.07.24 | My opinion on Counterparts' overall discog might ruffle some feathers, but I did genuinely enjoy listening. And now, I'm probably gonna spin a wheel to figure out what band I'll be doing next | AnimalForce1
11.22.24 | Finally getting back to this after a detour to check out new music. Spun a wheel, and Motionless in White is the next band up! This'll be interesting, I love their newer material, but I've never really listened to their older stuff |
