Hyperion1001 09.02.24	from about 2009 to 2015 the internet metal community was infested with the metal archives brainrot of “if a band has more than 3 demos and more than 15 people know about it, it sucks ass”. As a result a lot of popular workhorse metal bands got relegated to “sell out poser metal” and cannibal fell victim to that. Luckily most of us grew up and realized that only riffs matter and began to give those bands the flowers they rightly deserve.

evilford 09.02.24	Yeah hype is absolutely correct. The prevailing thought of the "elite metal community" really kept some people (including me) closed-minded for a long time, as far as being open to stuff that was actually really good that they didn't want to give props to for whatever reason. Without naming names there were a number of those personalities present on this site for a while. While some of them did have great taste in obscure selections of dm, that mindset closed a lot of doors that some of us had to do real mental work, and "dewiring" if you will, to open those doors back up. A couple of bands that fell victim to that phenomenon in my mind were CC and Defeated Sanity. And tbh, brutal dm as a whole and even technical dm mostly as a whole. Since opening my mind to the possibility of finding merit in these things I have really started to enjoy cannibal corpse's work. And Defeated Sanity has been a pick for one of my fav dm bands for 5 or so years now. Incredible musicians that just make really compelling music. Like hype said, luckily a lot of us sooner or later became aware of the pitfalls of that elitism and were able to realize the greatness in other areas of metal we had previously discounted. It's been an absolute win personally.
