when i think blastbeat im talkin about when the snare and kick hit at the same time, ugh, or "hammer blastbeats", thats sounds shit at any bpm
but some peeps say kick-snare alternate 1/16ths at high enough bpm is blast beats too but really high bpm. idk. once its high enough bpm that it sounds like they hit at the same time sure thats blasts too
like the drumming in the intro call of the wintermoon, thats rapid kick-snare alternate but its not so high bpm that you cant discern them, so i dont think of it as blasts https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FYOzCvreA8 |

09.14.24 | widow there are different types of blast beats, but for the hammer blast beat which is like the typical blast rhythm yes they do. it's just kick and snare together 1:1 |

In some cases yes, but in others no. Generally though, the snare is the star of the show when it comes to blast beats; those steady rapid-fire snare hits are important in defining the technique as a whole. Check out this video from 66Samus (who's an absolute beast) for a good example of what generally constitutes a blast beat:

09.14.24 | I mean, I think it’s fair to call the slow blasts blasts. Like, it’d only be a thrash/pogo/polka beat if the cymbal hits on the kick and the snare as they alternate. But hammer blasts hit with the snare, kick, and cymbal in unison, usually in eighth notes, and the traditional blast does kick and cymbal in unison, alternating with snare coming right after, usually in 16th notes. I think the trad blast is superior, sounds more chaotic, where hammers sound more mechanical. A lot of the best extreme drummers switch them up, though. And yeah, the list could use more grind and pv. |
