twiddly twang bing bong bullshit is when the second worst guitar tone ever conceived (after djent of course) comes on and they start making random noises with it for the sake of building a cacophonous wall of sound that exists in a vacuum rather than forming a structure with the other elements of the music. half the time it adds nothing. it is faux experimentation and the most boring aimless application of noise i can readily think of.
post-genericore aptly describes every band who came after, that apes this element, and drives it into the ground
allow us to correct the record and call challenge & repetition "proto post-genericore" for easier understanding - maybe unwound did it first and maybe they did it the best, but it still sucks and i'm tired of it. |

03.07.24 | i like noise. noise with texture. noise with purpose. noise i can get lost in, instead of having my attention constantly drawn to imperfection. noise that accentuates the experience, rather than detracting from it. noise that paints pictures in my mind other than overflowing trashcans lining san francisco's public defecation streets and alleyways.
i think the worst part is that a lot of the stuff in their discography i have distaste for, would actually sound great with slightly different textures/effects on the guitar + some altered syncopation at points. but they adamantly insist on bonging when they should be binging and vice versa. they make it sound bad intentionally. |
