La La Land is bullshit lol, dude has had much better performances in much better films. I haven’t seen Barbie but I can’t imagine that’s any different. Also shocked Leo didn’t get a nom for Killers of the Flower Moon. Idc about the rest of them but Lily Gladstone deserves the win over the rest in that category. Maybe the lady from Anatomy of a Fall could swing it for me but it’d be a crime not to give it to Lily. acting alongside fucking DiCaprio and De Niro (who were both bringing their A game) and you STILL put in the best performance, that’s really something.

Best performance I saw in 2023 But Barbie is in that weird stage of the cultural zeitgeist where, yes the fangirls are kind of annoying when it comes to how much love the film gets, but any criticism of it at all will get you branded as some Ben Shapiro type that thinks it’s too woke or some bs. Idk from what my friends have told me, the movie just feels heavy handed in it’s social messaging. But it’s also a fucking Barbie movie. This aint an A24 film Tbh all the conservative outrage actually makes me wanna sit down and watch it

neekafat 01.25.24	Maestro really is fine, I was surprisngly moved by some of it. Less of an ego piece for Cooper than I was expected based off of A Star Is Born, but it has some of the worst structure I've ever seen in a biopic which is saying something. if anything it's kinda a snoozer

There have been some pretty thoughtful critiques of it from "the left" as well but unfortunately these don't have the same megaphone shapiro types do

Anatomy of a Fall - absolutely loved. some of it's a bit ridiculous but the marriage story scene was chilling Poor Things Zone of Interest - liked it a lot but fuck me it's bleak Oppenheimer - worthy winner if it happens. little to love but loads to give kudos to Barbie - the academy aren't ready yet The Holdovers - warm and fuzzy but kind of inconsequential Maestro - hated it. boring and annoying

It wouldn’t be the first time he made a movie that felt underwhelming only for everyone to consider the directors cut a masterpiece… I haven’t seen Napoleon but if the biggest misses are bad pacing or editing, I can definitely see a director's cut being much better

I’ve watched a lot of good movies that I otherwise may not have ever heard of because of them. The grammys on the other hand are complete dogshit and are exactly what you describe.

My two favorite movies of the year. Just watched Ferrari which was mediocre at best. Napoleon at least had some entertainment value. Most of modern Hollywood doesn't know how to write compelling stories anymore.
