11.22.23 | embarrassing list, o boy |
JDubb
11.22.23 | Embarrassing…but true! The above albums had lasting effect. I doubt there are many who are currently jamming out to Janet Jackson (nothing against Janet though). U hear Crazy Train and Welcome to the Jungle about every time u go to a sports event. |
Demon of the Fall
11.22.23 | 'I'm a fan of most of these albums but brah...' (2)

are you dumb |
Ryus
11.22.23 | janet jackson has 100000x more relevance and influence w.r.t. the music that's popular today than all of these artists combined |
GhandhiLion
11.22.23 | yeah, that was wild lol what are her hits on spotify? for example |
Ryus
11.22.23 | actually nvm they play crazy train at sporting events |
GhandhiLion
11.22.23 | "janet jackson has 100000x more relevance and influence w.r.t. the music..."
That's a different claim that is tangential to what they said about no one listening to Janet, but sure |
Ryus
11.22.23 | he talked about lasting effect tho |
GhandhiLion
11.22.23 | Ah fair. Yeah things can definitely have lasting effect independent of whether the music is adopted/listened to by later generations. |
GhandhiLion
11.22.23 | The idea that there are more people listening to Ultramega OK than Janet Jackson is hilarious |
Demon of the Fall
11.22.23 | Amusingly I didn’t know Ultramega Okay was a thing until right this second
I am a music website visitor |
JohnnyoftheWell
11.22.23 | the suggestion that no one today is listening to janet jackson is hysterically off-base regardless of her (huge) legacy [3] |
GhandhiLion
11.22.23 | Lol it's a good album. Probably underrated on here |
MeatSalad
11.22.23 | The contents of this list aren't necessarily wrong but like... there are more than 2 relevant genres of music in the 80's my guy |
GhandhiLion
11.22.23 | "The only ten 1980's albums that truly matter"
They are wrong if "truly matter" =/= matters to JDubb |
JDubb
11.22.23 | Genres (and subgenres) is more of a recent construct. There was less focus on that as a child in the 80’s. All of it ( what is now considered 80’s pop, rock, hard rock, etc.) was mixed/playing on MTV, VH1, BET, or the radio, except for maybe heavy metal (taboo back then). Whether videos were playing on MTV (edgier content) vs. VH1 (lame shit) vs BET (breaking rap) was the big differentiator. Country was off on its own, and certainly didn’t have the fan base back then as it does now. |
