Get Low 04.30.23	I always like to have a moment after finishing an album to appreciate what I just listened to, but then some crude-sounding live version of one the songs starts screeching in my ears and the moment is ruined. I'll go out of my way sometimes to make playlists out of the original tracks from an album just so I don't have to deal with the bonus tracks beginning to play afterward.
Demon of the Fall 04.30.23	Ugh, I mean just stop the damn thing if you don’t want to listen. Easily done I dislike when I have to research what was on the original release and what wasn’t, but I realise that’s just laziness on my part (sometimes this is obvious, other times not).
Get Low 04.30.23	I shouldn't have to manually stop it in the first place, which is the annoying thing, and I also can't easily do that in some instances (like when I'm driving for example). I just wish that record labels and/or music distributors would always make OG versions of albums available in addition to deluxe editions for those who want to listen to those.

In practice though, I find it mostly diminishes the experience and I tend to end it as soon as I'm aware that there's a tacked on bit. Decent albums are sequenced with flow and cohesion in mind. As an experience, the bonus stuff generally undermines that.

It seems wrong that people might not realise the original release didn’t contain certain songs, as it really can change your perception of the overall Honestly, I’ve heard albums I didn’t realise had bonus tracks and thought to myself ‘that was a weird transition’ and only after looking it up did it become apparent (now I expect it / look out for such things).

Supercoolguy64 04.30.23	discography CDs are the shit too. As far as I’m concerned the CD format is at its peak when its limitations and format are utilized. The dystopia CDs are the perfect examples - full color booklets and they use all the space they can to fit extra music. More bang for yo buck.

MillionDead 04.30.23	I think Converge originally had Wolves at My Door as a Japanese bonus track on You Fail Me, I feel like the album is incomplete without it and it’s one of my favorite Converge tunes. That being said, essential bonus tracks are pretty rare. I would much rather an album just stop when it’s over. But if you’re having an attentive listening session vs zoning out doing something else, it shouldn’t really matter. Some bonus tracks really hit but it’s kind of jarring when you hear some kind of final feeling resolution and an incongruous throwaway track with totally different production bursts in.

You can't prevent a CD or record from playing it. If you're doing something while the media is playing, it'll just keep playing. 2. Most music managers don't have a feature to prevent auto-play of tracks when you decide to play an album. I remember iTunes actually had this, and it was probable the only good thing about it compared to others. I use Plex for most of my listening and not having bonus tracks play requires you to... delete the media files from your filesystem lmao. I've said this in the thread for that album, but Opeth's Orchid has an awful bonus track with dogshit sound quality (it's from a rehearsal) and it's present on every physical release of that album, I think, since it was first reissued. You have to get up and stop the album quickly enough or else you get your ears ass-blasted with this track.

I always have to skip and remove that crap whenever I'm at the gym. "Bonus" tracks also suck. Either put it on the album or don't. When fans listen to them, they're just thinking "well clearly the track is sub-par, since the band didn't want it on the record."
Crawl 05.01.23	Live tracks, acoustic/alternative versions and demos are useless. If there are B-Sides, let them be released as an EP or as a compilation later on.
XingKing 05.01.23	Converge's deluxe edition of AWLWLB is actually the definitive version of the album for me because they put the bonus tracks into the actual tracklisting in a logical way. That's one of the few times I haven't hated it or erased the tracks.

The only other time a band did something like that I can think of is when Bone Thugs N Harmony added that second version of Crossroads to their first album after Eazy E died but at least that was only within a few months of the initial release. Still bought the album cuz I didn’t already own a copy tho

I have an absolutely terrible copy of Judas Priest’s Painkiller from Back On Black (red flag already) where they put Battle Hymn and One Shot at Glory on different sides, and then they tack on the bonus tracks (a not great ballad and a bad live version of Leather Rebel). It’s easily the worst case of bonus tracks fucking with the album that I know of.
PotsyTater 05.02.23	Bonus tracks are fine. You have no obligation to listen to them therefore they are a non-problem. What is truly terrible, is hidden songs. Because if you like either the first song or the hidden song after the silence but not the other, not only can you never naturally listen to either of them out of the context of each other, but you also can’t ever put them in a playlist unless you want the flow to be interrupted by several minutes of silence. Basically any song with a hidden song tacked on is playlist-kryptonite
