i saw Rotting Christ the other night

was a long time comin after Covid cancelled the first Devastation on the Nation tour and then grad school getting in the way of the rescheduled date. went with my bro for his 25th bday. saw all the bands. it was rad
1Gaerea
Mirage

made sure to get there right on time to see Gaerea open up the show. love their style of moody, melodic black metal. their mask + black paint on their arms was interesting but made for some cool stage presence, the lead singer was very ghoul-like lol
2Uada
Cult of a Dying Sun

meant to see Uada right before Covid hit but it was the same day I went with my Oma to put her dog down so I was emo af and didnt go. they do the same edgy schtick Gaerea did with hoods covering their faces but its impact was immediately negated when they started their set with fucking Djinn i mean that song fucking sucks. they had some sound issues too but that was fixed a few songs in and the rest of their set was swag. would much rather catch them and Gaerea on a smaller tour with just them two in a smaller club
3Carach Angren
Franckensteina Strataemontanus

ive pretty much never checked these guys before, so I went in expecting some Disneyland metal thats corny and laughable but they actually put on an amazing show. opened up their set with a cheeky lil wall of death. my favorite part was their keyboardist double fisting a keytar and a keyboard while playing Goosebump type beats. very cool show, but i'd much rather see, say, Dimmu Borgir with a full orchestra and choir setup
4Rotting Christ
The Heretics

bearing witness to trve hellenic riffz has definitely bumped a few years off my metal purgatory sentence. their chant-y and repetitive riffing translates super well into a live setting, felt like we were all summoning Balnazzar or some shit. every song sounded so good and no notes or beats were missed. even saw some nerds who were fighting earlier settle it like trve gentlemen in the pit. no complaints at all here
