You have to not only focus on the grooves but also the atmosphere it creates, no other metal genre utilizes atmosphere as much as djent besides post metal I suppose, but I still prefer the way djent does it, I digress.

The incorporation of extended-range guitars of course adds a lot more possibilities to metal in general, originally popularized by Korn, djent bands have taken the tones to new heights. Palm muting is the most effective way of producing the djent sound, though it's not an essential practice.
