MELODEATH NEWCOMERS

my favorite melodic death metal bands to pop up in the last 5 years or so.
1Aesmah
Walking Off The Horizon

these frenchies brought a breath of fresh air to the rather stagnant genre with this 2019 debut. be on the lookout for new things in 2023
2Moonshade
As We Set the Skies Ablaze

probably my favorite newcomer, this 2022 LP is an absolutely crushing followup to their excellent debut 4 years ago. perfectly melancholic and melodic in the vein of Insomnium
3Shadecrown
Solitarian

Shadecrown have been consistently dropping that moody, doomy, gloomy, haunting, and melodic shit since their 2016 debut.
4Duskmourn
Fallen Kings and Rusted Crowns

absolutely in love with band, they just dont miss. the riffs and atmosphere add to the rich, folky story telling
5Nyktophobia
What Lasts Forever

remember that band December Flower named after an In Flames song that sounded just like that era of In Flames? well they broke up a decade ago but some of the guys made this band where they blend that old school swedish melodeath sound with the melancholic riffing of, say, Insomnium. its neat!
6Aeolian
The Negationist

spanish melodeathers Aeolian have created a recognizable sound for themselves that sets them apart from being just another "insertrandommelodeathband" clone. the riffs are catchy and they sing about saving the environment
7Aephanemer
A Dream Of Wilderness

fast melodic riffing and keyboard shredding mixed with high and raspy screams continues the legacy of Children of Bodom and Kalmah in a way that isnt worship-y at all
8Buried Realm
Buried Realm

American one-man project buried realm brings the crisply produced and heavy asf riffs. their latest from 2022 is one of my favorites of the year
9Perpetual Night
Aconitum

Spaniards Perpetual Night bring the doom and gloom infused melodies
10Act of Denial
Negative

while this supergroup are not necessarily newcomers, this 2021 release is at the very least an exciting preview for whats hopefully to come. its like a modern take on oldschool Soilwork. also worth mentioning their song "Slave" was my top song of 2022 according to spotify
11Countless Skies
Glow

brexit belakor, with some solid moments that stand out. i'm sure whatever theyre cooking up right now will blow their first two LPs out of the water
