| 7 songs - Aggrotech EARLY
Tracks from bands that were were sharing the stage around 2004 | 1 | Amduscia False Freedom
2003 | 2 | Psyclon Nine Resurrekt
2003 | 3 | God Module Lunacy
2003 | 4 | Grendel (NL) Construct Constriction
2004 | 5 | Funker Vogt Fallen Hero
2005 | 6 | Friendly Fire
2005
But Sputnik user XyphDryne (a German speaker) insists that Funker Vogt (a German band) is not aggrotech. See comments below. | 7 | Suicide Commando Body Count Proceed (2007 Recount mix)
2000
There are at least four mixes of this song. The original appeared on Mindstrip. It's a good mix, and so is the latest on Commando's 2020 remix of that album (all of these bands spend a lot of their time remixing stuff). All the remixes are good, emphasizing different parts of the original multi-layered song, but the 2007 Recount best emphasizes my favorite synth-layer. | |

11.22.22 | Funker Vogt..this band..
Civil woar all over the land,
everything is destroyed,
soldiers are dying in the sand,
our cities are a void.
(no aggrotech though) | kildare
11.23.22 | @XyphDryne: Ha! I was worried that if you looked at this you were going to weigh in my on choice to include Funker Vogt. And I was right to be concerned! :-)
I agree that at least the vocal style is definitely not comparable to the others on the list. But some fan or fans listed "Aggrotech" as a genre under their English Wikipedia page, and I've seen them mentioned in the same discussion as Suicide Commando and Hocico on websites, and it feels that if they're not in the same genre than at least in a COMPATIBLE one. Surely they could be played in the same sequence with Grendel at a club? But that would go for VNV Nation, too, so I guess that doesn't mean anything.
For the sake of ass-coverage, I tried to look them up in the (translated) Deutsch Wikipedia, but it just lists them as Electro, which I don't think is a genre that out-of-the-loop English-speaking fans use for this kind of music. This kind of sucks for obsessive genre-splitters like me. For example, Acylum called some of his music Gothic-Electro, which totally leaves me stranded. Bauhaus is Goth. But Acylum? Just out of curiosity, how would you class Funker Vogt? And are you a fan?

11.23.22 | Oh, and I included your disagreement with Funker Vogt being aggrotech in the list. I'm happy to delete it you want. | XyphDryne
11.24.22 | Haha. You are too friendly for this website. I just enjoy a discussion about bands like these on this site. Not many people here listening to that stuff. You know, it is probably debatable. When Funker started, this term "aggrotech" was not around. And when it did, Funker sounded already far tamer than on their first 3 albums. But I guess, S.C. is a pretty good example and was certainly very influential. At least his sound reminds me far more of bands like Grendel etc. Also, I wanna add S.I.T.D. The song snuff machinery was played to death in discos back then. If you don´t know the song or band, prepare yourself for a thick, awful German accent, haha.
And of course you are right, it could play in the same club. And it did.
Well, I used to be a Funker fan. When Execution Tracks dropped, I bought it just by the looks of the cover (no internet to have a listen). This kind of music was pretty new to me and hence I started digging. But I got tired by the band with Navigator to be honest. Also, the lyrics were totally stupid. How can you, as an English native speaker, listen to that? :) Yeah, and then we had the whole debacle with the new singer who was/is considered something beyond very right wing, leading to a shit storm. So they parted ways. I guess you know this already In case you have not seen the song of this period, enjoy. It is completely laughable: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JN2el5DdI2M
But maybe you disagree..? But this must sound so stupid in your ears. For me it does and it is not even my native tongue.
I don´t mind his voice, but the video, the chorus..what is this...how more awkward can it be.. | kildare
11.24.22 | "I don´t mind his voice, but the video, the chorus..what is this...how more awkward can it be." Totally! I didn't know anything about it and picked up the single right after I heard a purely AUDIO version on YouTube. I listened to it to death. WEEKS LATER I SAW THE VIDEO! Fuck. In my defense, his lyrics are pretty vague, aren't they? I mean, they don't say EXACTLY what he's singing about? Sheesh, I didn't know anything about Korn; I thought the guy was just saying that he was, I don't know, "sick" like schizophrenic or bipolar or neurotic or depressed or something more socially acceptable. Not that he was a fucking pervert! Christ. I hate it when artists fuck up perfectly good art with their sexual depravities. Sigh.
"Also, the lyrics were totally stupid. How can you, as an English native speaker, listen to that? :)" It's hard to explain but I'll try because I seem to have a bit of a mental deficit here, and I've thought about it a lot over the years. She says "aren't those lyrics wonderful?", and I say, "uhhhh....what did he say?"

11.24.22 | I think of poetic phrases as having three pieces:
1.) Their sound, like rhyming and assonance, e.g. Friedrich Shiller's "Froh, wie seine Sonnen fliegen", where he wrote a lot of words that start with "s" and "f." I still enjoy listening to this (from Beethoven's 9th) even though I don't understand it.
2.) Their syntactic rhythm, and
3.) Their meaning.
Funker Vogt's lyrics often rhyme (1), and usually have good poetic metre (2). I compute all that unconsciously and unconsciously pair it to the rhythm of the music. But my brain usually just fails to compute 3 above, the lyrics MEANINGS. (Also, they're about war, and I'm not exactly a FAN of Hollywood war movies, but I've re-watched my share. My wife can't understand what guys like me get out watching all that gore and violence, but I speculate that for "fans" like me it's deep in our minds, instinctual almost. Funker Vogt's just singing about war, so my brain says "oh, war" and that's about it. I don't form any images in my mind about what they're saying.)

11.24.22 | I assume that you're brain computes 1 to 3 normally, so I speculate that lyrics just filter in and you unconsciously process 1 to 3 all at once? Like, your mind actually forms IMAGES of the things they're singing about? But I only process 1 and 2 at once, unconsciously, and my brain's temporal lobe (?) usually DROPS 3 for some reason. I don't form images. Like a dropped bit in a computer; or a dropped signal on cell-phone reception.
It's not that I CAN'T form images, it's that my brain usually doesn't do it automatically. But sometimes for whatever reason I am FORCED to pay attention to lyrics, and they better be DAMN GOOD in that case. The new Aesthetic Perfection is a perfect example, and I'm sketching a review, giving it at most a 3.0, but more like "poor" to "average," that will be just a bitching session about his lyrics.
Anyway, I suspect I smoked too much dope as a teenager and burned out some circuits. Because though I have at least average intelligence, I fucking SUCK at rote memoraization. It's close to a disability. And I have raging ADHD, although I doubt that issue has anything to do with THC-overuse like my rote-memorization deficits are.
On S.I.T.D (thanks for leaving out the [::] stuff): "If you don´t know the song or band, prepare yourself for a thick, awful German accent, haha." I could go on about accents too. But I've probably written enough! Check out my Tankard review if you're interested: Just do a "find" on the page for "accent" if you don't want to read it ; I think kept it all in one paragraph

11.24.22 | "Haha. You are too friendly for this website." Going to have to unpack that another time! |
