mewithoutYou Ranked: Sunnyvale Edition

List is just what the title suggests, my attempt to rank mewithoutYou's seven LPs (plus one worthy EP). Quite a band, I got into them relatively late but they've gained quite a space in my heart during the last few years. Sad to see them go, but I'm glad I got to witness their third-to-last show ever.

It's All Crazy! It's All False! It's All A Dream! It's Alright!

This one's underrated in some quarters in my book, but ultimately I'd still place it last. I have to be in a particular mood to turn to this one over other mewithoutYou albums, but plenty of great songs nonetheless.

Top Three Songs: Goodbye, I!, The King Beetle On A Coconut Estate, Timothy Hay
7mewithoutYou
A to B: Life

This one feels like mewithoutYou hadn't found their true calling quite yet, but it's great for what it is. Don't come back to this as a whole too often though.

Top Three Songs: Silencer, Bullet To Binary, Everything Was Beautiful And Nothing Hurt
6mewithoutYou
Brother, Sister

This being ranked so low will probably be controversial. I will say this has been growing on me, but the percentage of songs I truly love here as of yet are lower than any of the albums ranked above it. Maybe the most quintessential "mewithoutYou" album of all in terms of sound and style.

Top Three Songs: A Glass Can Only Spill What It Contain, In A Sweater Poorly Knit, Messes Of Men
5mewithoutYou
[Untitled]

A worthy final album for the band, and one that kept my interest in them high after initially being enthralled by Pale Horses but not venturing any further into their discography.

Top Three Songs: Julia (Or, 'Holy To The LORD' On The Bells Of Horses), Winter Solstice, 9:27a.m., 7/29
4mewithoutYou
[untitled] e.p.

EPs tend to get short shrift compared to full-lengths, but in this case this release deserves as much praise as most of the group's LPs. This is an unusually one-note effort with it's quiet and reserved nature, but it really works.

Top Three Songs: Bethlehem, WV, Kristy W/ The Sparkling Teeth, Existential Dread, Six Hours' Time

Catch For Us the Foxes

This was the first album of theirs from the pre-Pale Horses era for me to fall for. It's a different vibe, but does what it does very well. A pretty gripping listen.

Top Three Songs: Disaster Tourism, My Exit, Unfair, The Soviet
2mewithoutYou
Ten Stories

This album has been an obsession of late, took a while to grow on me. Probably their most lyrics-focused effort, and some very nice subtle melodies.

Top Three Songs: Nine Stories, Cardiff Giant, Bear's Vision Of St. Agnes

Pale Horses

It could only be this one. This album got me into the band and still feels virtually flawless from start to finish. One of the greatest records of all time in my book.

Top Three Songs: Lilac Queen, Magic Lantern Days, Dorothy
