Sunnyvale
03.02.22 | This is difficult, but happy with the results. Let me know your thoughts! |
JefferyBigglestein2
03.02.22 | midly dissapointed that this wasnt a list containing the actual top 25 tallest living men on earth.
think im like number 9 on that list im 7 foot 4. |
Sunnyvale
03.02.22 | LOL, sorry to disappoint! |
YoYoMancuso
03.02.22 | my #1 is your #2, i'll take it.
where the literal eff is Wind And Walls tho |
Sunnyvale
03.02.22 | @YoYo, nice!
Wind And Walls was close to inclusion but just missed the cut! |
AmericanFlagAsh
03.02.22 | The Dreamer and Little River??? |
dedex
03.02.22 | You're Going Back, The Dreamer, Little River, Sometimes the Blues' etc, Running Styles of New York ☹☹ |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
03.02.22 | I imagine the difficulty stems mostly from them all sounding exactly the same |
Sunnyvale
03.02.22 | Sorry folks, can't win them all! Most of those songs mentioned were close to making the cut... |
Pheromone
03.02.22 | omg where is you're going back aka the absolute best |
Sunnyvale
03.02.22 | You said "driver, please, don't go that fuckingggggggggg way"
You said "just let it go awayyyyyyyyyyy"
Song rules, indeed! |
Colton
03.02.22 | saw him 10 years ago, one of the best shows I've ever seen you won't be disappointed
2 is 1 |
Colton
03.02.22 | list needs The Drying of the Lawns |
dedex
03.02.22 | > omg where is you're going back aka the absolute best
😍 |
Sunnyvale
03.02.22 | @Colton, awesome, yeah, I've heard good things. Quite excited! |
fogza
03.02.22 | Everything this guy writes sounds like a bunch of earnest non sequitirs, drives me nuts |
Pheromone
03.02.22 | there’s this tallest man on earth interview about his lyrics which had me the same way - something about how he dislikes people writing personal lyrics from their own perspective. rubbed me the wrong way |
Sunnyvale
03.02.22 | Hmmm, I've always loved his lyrical style, just the perfect level of abstractness while still being relatable. They always "speak to my soul" or whatever other cliche you want to use. Even when don't really know what the words/phrases mean, on a deeper level I feel like I understand them perfectly. |
Colton
03.02.22 | kinda reminds me of The National's lyric style |
Colton
03.02.22 | but more colourful with more vivid imagery, and a different mood to it. english also isn't his first language |
fogza
03.02.22 | "kinda reminds me of The National's lyric style"
Nah. |
YoYoMancuso
03.02.22 | *aggressive Swedish folksy fingerpicking*
I'M A BIRTHDAY CANDLE IN A CIRCLE OF BLACK GIRLS |
fogza
03.02.22 | Lmao! |
Sinternet
03.03.22 | gah how can you miss the gardener |
Sunnyvale
03.03.22 | I figured The Gardener and King Of Spain would be unpopular omissions...
The Gardener would've made my top ten at one point, but other songs have grown on me more over the years |
YoYoMancuso
03.03.22 | Wait I just realized King of Spain isn’t here and now I’m WORKED UP |
Sunnyvale
03.03.22 | Haha, I shouldn't have highlighted that, I guess |
chemicalmarriage
03.03.22 | Drying of the lawns is 1 |
CrisStyles
03.03.22 | The Gardener not being on here hurts. Really happy to see The Sparrow and the Medicine though |
RadioSuicide
03.03.22 | nice list, very unique picks. 24 will be my #1 forever- i heard it over a decade ago and it hasn't lost an inch of its magic. hell, i don't think any of his music ever will for me. timeless act. |
Sunnyvale
03.03.22 | Cheers @RadioSuicide, yeah, one of those artists for me too, thousands of plays later his music still hits me the same way it used to. |
RadioSuicide
03.05.22 | Hell yes dude. Hope you enjoyed the show- seeing him live is an incredible experience. As masterful with his stage presence as he is with his guitar playing. |
Sunnyvale
03.05.22 | Yeah man! It was an incredible show (I'm sure it being my first live music experience in two years didn't hurt either). He played a very high energy set with a ton of my favorites, at least one song from every LP plus a few from Sometimes The Blues Is Just A Passing Bird. Set list was pretty heavy on The Wild Hunt and There's No Leaving Now, which was fine by me. |
CrisStyles
03.06.22 | Saw him last night, he was phenomenal. |
lysinecontingency
02.01.23 | I can't fault your #1 pick but Where Do My Bluebird Fly is 'criminal' being that low. |
Pangea
02.01.23 | woah i have never seen this, cool list even though 3 and 4 are my probably my least faves on their respective albums. I dig criminals as #1 pick |
Sunnyvale
02.01.23 | Nice to see this list resurrected! Criminals is incredible, yeah.
|
Colton
04.10.23 | what is it about Criminals you like so much? I love it too just curious why it's number 1 for you |
Colton
04.10.23 | if this version of Revelation Blues was on one of his albums it would probably be top 10 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbIz0tzWaDQ&ab_channel=Pitchfork |
normaloctagon
04.10.23 | Good content love a ranked list with lyrics 🤌 |
Colton
04.10.23 | normaloctagon my research tells me you don't have his last two albums rated? or even his first two EPs????? |
Sunnyvale
04.10.23 | Thanks normal!
@Colton, hard to say for sure regarding Criminals... I guess the lyrics really hit me (even more than usual for him), something very profoundly nostalgic about them. |
