I don’t think emo/hardcore suffices for the reason Sint outlined, could easily be a completely different core sound… which is hella misleading for people Huge omission, I’d put it up there with Disco as one of the biggest. I definitely think Slowcore isn’t far behind mind.

theBoneyKing 02.19.22	Eh, maybe it’s my bias but I’d argue chamber pop is more expansive and covers more acts than baroque pop, especially since baroque pop is a more scene/time period limited movement and hence is a lower priority. RYM has about 1,000 more chamber pop tagged releases than baroque pop too FWIW.

theBoneyKing 02.19.22	Well that’s an issue of categorizing whole bands with a single genre rather than individual songs/albums. New Wave is def a rock genre, one that happens to overlap frequently and have shared influence with synthpop.

Don't know why it would be easy to add a couple but not to add a lot What I mean is that I'd like to be hopeful and think that they might end up adding many genres, with poll just working as some way to priotize some of them
theBoneyKing 02.19.22	I’ve had the same thought but I’m not gonna get my hopes up too much. What may make it more difficult is that new genres need to be coded into the hierarchy (rudimentary as the current one is) so it’s not as easy as just expanding a list.

theBoneyKing 02.19.22	Ghandhi, maybe not whole artists but a lot of the more singer/songwriter and country/folk influenced slowcore stuff isn’t really rock and there are individual songs that I’d describe as slowcore that are based on piano/acoustic guitar. Think some of Jason Molina’s stuff, Smog too.

Until now I guess, trying out this Pinebender album (didn't know they were considered slowcore until after starting to listen to it) Not bad and not as boring / bleak as I imagined. And Slint is cool... but apparently not slowcore lol

I haven’t heard of Pinebender but it looks like they’re more primarily an emo/post-rock band with slowcore as an influence (a common combination). Look cool. Slint are obviously a lot more than slowcore but they were absolutely a major influence on a lot of these bands and I would argue that “Washer” and “For Dinner” are straight up slowcore songs (maybe even “Don, Aman” too, but that’s a bit more of a stretch/less definitive of the core slowcore sound).
Demon of the Fall 04.08.22	Slint slowcore pretty hard at times from where I’m sitting. Yeah I should check out more of this stuff. Really enjoyed that 40 Watt Sun album which certainly seemed to lean in that direction.

theBoneyKing 04.13.22	For stuff similar to Perfect Light, 4 is your best bet if you don’t know Kozelek’s works (must of course be noted that the guy is a known douchebag and accused of multiple counts of sexual misconduct - make of that what you will). 5, 9, 13, and 17 may apply as well. For Wider Than the Sky, definitely try 10, 14 could work too.
