2022 Listening Log - January

I've tried being selective, I've tried being disciplined, I've tried to quit, I've tried it all and this year I just wanna listen to a shit ton of albums. This list is mostly for myself, to keep track of stuff, etc, but feel free to rec, shitpost, steal NFTs and share it on your Insta stories.
1Fragments Of Lost Memories
Divagate

Japanese Funeral Doom. First album I heard this year, while doing the dishes. Neat.
2Mechina
Venator

First album I reviewed this year, a tradition I hope to keep in the future if Tiberi and his gang make it possible. I'm here for it.
3Infected Rain
Ecdysis

Since Jinjer's Wallflowers last year, I've been on a mood for lady fronted metalcore, why not, these guys are good, it seems they have gotten better? Idk, the melodic vocal parts are pretty nice, but the album is a little too long for what it is so it feels a bit bloated.
4Hyper Gal
Pure

Japanese noise dance punk duo who I've known for a while, but my band played with them last Sunday on their release party and they put on a killer show, the album is crazy fun too.
5Wilderun
Epigone

Fuck Disney prog seriously, but hey the death metal parts with monks are really good, more of that?
6Deaf Club (USA-CA)
Productive Disruption

Some Dillinger here and there, vocals remind me of Snapcase sometimes, it's a good chaotic time.
7Burial
ANTIDAWN EP

Not really an EP, this shit is 43 minutes long folks. Very sparse, very chill, wish the vocals had more weight, and that there were more beats, but it's a more than decent ambient record and a nice counterbalance to the unhealthy amount of black metal I'm planning to jam this year.
8Shapeshifter (JPN)
Dark Ritual

Why do I keep trusting Johnny's reviews when he j... no u know what, this is actually pretty good, for real, crusty, nasty dm hardcorics. Hai.
9Dark Millennium
Acid River

Heard this today, liked it a lot. For a band that's been around since the 90s (with a long break in between) they sound fresh and tight, while keeping that doom/dm vibe of said decade, really surprised by this one.
10Sothoris
Wpiekłowstąpienie

Polish Behemoth worship but it's good, sounds great and it's pure evil. Haven't heard it in full yet so may update at some point.
11Oar
The Blood You Crave

Heard a couple of tracks, hated the mix, vocals too high, the rest of the band lost behind it, probably better than what I'm telling you here, but it didn't do it for me, at least for now.
12Resonant Filth
Depraved State

Forgot to add this cause I was pulling from my Spoti playlist and this was on BC. DM project of our homie Captain Doo, so go give it a jam. Sput user projects are in full force lately. We seem to be far from the days of good ol' Snide.
13Soichi Terada
Asakusa Light

A chill trance ambient with some interesting choices of pad textures and sounds from another time. Jammed half of it but I felt an urgent crave for some metal so switched to that instead.
14Nocturnal Graves
An Outlaws Stand

Season of Mist going for another year of signing bands and dropping albums en masse. These guys are OK, will probably get buried by a hundred of other releases of the same time in a couple of months.
15Anna von Hausswolff
Live at Montreux Jazz Festival

Absolutely stunning. The version of "Kallans..." with vocals just floored me. Review incoming.
16Bonobo
Fragments

Another solid release from Bonobo-senpai, loving the features here, I already see a couple of tracks that could get heavy rotation.
17Mizmor
Wit's End

Two tracks. The first track is a brutal slab of funeral doom and the second is a pretty ambient recording with stuff going in reverse. Not as good as the previous one.
