Can you truly separate art from the artist

In music specially it seems to me this is an even more difficult thing to do, on other media there might be other people that were involved but a lot of the times music is a very personal representation of the artist itself, and thus, it seems crazy to me that we choose to separate the art from the artist, specially that it only comes to light when the artist in question is problematic.
1Lostprophets
Liberation Transmission
2Amy Winehouse
Back to Black

case in point, for all intents and purposes Amy was a very troubled woman with a history of drug addiction and alcoholism, yet people tend to see her more as a lost soul, and use that narrative to enhance her art.
3Brand New
Science Fiction
4Jonny Craig
A Dream Is A Question You Don't Know How To Answer

the other side of the spectrum is again an artist that has a history of drug addiction and predatory behavior towards his fans both on DGD and as a solo artist, yet the line is drawn in the sand for one and not for the other.
5Burzum
Hvis Lyset Tar Oss

how can you recontextualize art into something that you enjoy without taking into account the person who created it, as they always say, context always matters.
