I was already having relationships and one-night stands with men around the end of high school and the beginning of college, but since I lived in a very conservative town at the time, it was tough for me to reveal my sexuality back then

I was briefly in a relationship with a guy back in college, and that was when I was first realizing that I had an attraction to men. But once I let him know that I was bisexual and not gay, he started having a different demeanor from then on. Eventually we stopped talking altogether and I haven't spoken to him in almost a decade. I get the sense that the same mindset you're referring to had something to do with it
