| Thy Catafalque Ranked
After going through the entire discog recently, here's my ranking. Thinking this is probably pretty different from what most other fans would have. | | 1 | | Thy Catafalque Vadak
All of Tamas' best sounds and styles from across all his albums, fused together into one big giant folky facemelting riff fest. Perfect flow, perfect balance, engaging songwriting, killer riffs...the list goes on. Just spectacular. | | 2 | | Thy Catafalque Rengeteg
Grooves hard. Riffs hard. Nicely balanced, lively and energetic, but still not afraid to get a little weird. A more focused effort and it pays off. | | 3 | | Thy Catafalque Sgùrr
First album with the nice, clean sounding production needed to really appreciate Tamas' compositional prowess. Excellent Songwriting; the longer tracks work better here than on any other of his albums with 15+ minute songs. | | 4 | | Thy Catafalque Roka Hasa Radio
Really intriguing song structures and some great experimentation, but a little too all over the place sonically and stylistically for it's own good. The 20-minute second track is not great and gets in the way of the much better music that comes after it. | | 5 | | Thy Catafalque Tuno Ido Tarlat
Basically the same deal as Roska, but not quite as well executed. Again, has a (nearly) 20-minute so-so track in the way of better music. | | 6 | | Thy Catafalque Geometria
Better than I remember. Strikes a nice balance between straight up riffage and folky tunes, but alternates a bit too mechanically, and just doesn't quite get there quality wise with the guitar passages and songwriting. | | 7 | | Thy Catafalque Meta
Another well balanced album, but it's heavy focus on...heaviness makes this one a drag. I rarely make it through the 21 minute 6th track, but there's no denying it's a solid entry. | | 8 | | Thy Catafalque Microcosmos
Tamas was just starting to find his sound here. A pretty wild journey, for better and worse, but surprisingly engaging for how haphazard and helter-skelter it is. | | 9 | | Thy Catafalque Naiv
I can understand why fans appreciate this one, but it just wasn't for me. Nothing particularly bad going on here, just a total snoozer. | | 10 | | Thy Catafalque Sublunary Tragedies
Wow, this was...kind of bad actually. Weak songwriting, terrible production, boring riffs, etc. A really rough start, but just goes to show you; don't give up! 10 albums latter, dude crafted a masterpiece. | |

06.30.21 | Yeah nice list portal. I only came in on Meta and haven’t yet explored earlier albums so for me it’s Meta>Vadak>Naiv>Geometria | porcupinetheater
06.30.21 | Roka is definitely the tops for me, way that one gives so much room to the folktrance to carve out the soundscape is special. Gentle ebb and flow of the whole extended middle portion of the 20-minuter is one of the best things in the discog |
