06.03.21 | 20yrs ago I absolutely loved David Mitchells books. The last one I read was The Bone Clocks which was good. Haven’t read the latest one would you recommend it? |

06.03.21 | The latest one is Utopia Avenue and I loved it. :) Lots of references to musicians of the late 60s too, so music nerds are in for a treat. I'm huge fan of Mitchell; and a music lover and Mitchell fan should be very pleased imo. It's in terms of what it's going for closer to Black Swan Green imo. There is more realism instead of fantasy. |

If you want to read more, that's great. But don't put pressure on yourself to read for hours every day or something like that, that's luxury. Carry a book with you and learn to read in the short periods of time when you're waiting for a bus for example. Someone told me as a modern reader you've got to do both: read in longer periods, when you have the time, and read in short bursts, when you don't.
Maybe that's helpful to you. It was to me. :) |

06.03.21 | Oh yes sorry I was thinking Utopia Ave but obviously got it confused with Slade House (another I haven’t read)
Utopia Ave certainly seems up my street 😉 but I think I might give De Zoet a re-read. |

06.03.21 | De Zoet might be my personal favorite. :) Slade House was quite standard Mitchell fare imo. It has all the trademarks, but it tries to be horror or mystery, and horror just isn't his genre imo. The book is very readable and has his lush, rich and british prose, but overall I wasn't blown away or scared or thrilled tbh. Don't expect too much of it. |

06.03.21 | I really loved Slade House but yeah it doesn’t really hold a candle (get it) to much of his other work. Fantastic author. |

06.03.21 | Oh, I see what you did there :D
I loved reading it, I'll give it that. I always enjoy Mitchell |

06.04.21 | Also in defense of Slade House, the book plays with different types of horror stories. There is the ghost story, the drug story, etc. That's some cool stuff. Also it adds to the magic system. It's a good and even interesting books, he just has done some better novels in the past imo. |

06.04.21 | Yeah I mean it’s basically just a short Bone Clocks spin-off so you can’t expect Jacob de Zoet level stuff |

06.04.21 | The David Mitchell shared novel universe is cooler than Stephen Kings. Don’t @ me |

06.04.21 | I never read King, but I will in the future. Shining is on my list |
