| Stone Temple Pilots Ranked
STP has only been one if those bands i enjoyed but never delved into beyond Core and a handful of singles. I’m something of a Grunge fanatic, so it’s a bit odd that I’ve neglected them like i have. My girlfriend and her brother are super into them, and i’ve been exposed to their later work a lot more than ever, so i decided to dive in head first and they’re one of my favorite bands now, why have i been sleeping on this stuff!? | 9 | | Stone Temple Pilots Perdida
Good god. Nearly unrecognizable
2/5 | 8 | | Stone Temple Pilots Stone Temple Pilots
Edit: i can’t get the 2018 album to show up regardless of which album title i choose, so this is the 2018 one lmao.
Not a fan of the new stuff, almost at all. It just seems so pointless and greedy at this point. Let it die guys,
2.3/5 | 7 | | Stone Temple Pilots Stone Temple Pilots
Idk which self titled is which because sputnik just shows the name lol. This is the 2014 album
But this album is kind of boring, a few good moments but it lacks nearly all of the charm of the previous albums. Probably the worst comeback album of the grunge movement.
2.9/5 | 6 | | Stone Temple Pilots High Rise
Actually really enjoy this. Chester sounds a LOT like Weiland, and all of the songs here are very good. Not something i listen to regularly, but it’s certainly worth a listen.
3.5 | 5 | | Stone Temple Pilots No. 4
Kind of a mix of the previous 3 albums, however not as consistent. Though still great.
4/5 | 4 | | Stone Temple Pilots Shangri-La-Dee-Da
The definition of underrated. Kind of in line with no.4, and i think it’s the better album between the two.
4/5 | 3 | | Stone Temple Pilots Core
A classic album. One of the most iconic grunge debuts that stands tall next to the big 4, and they weren’t even from Seattle.
4.5/5 | 2 | | Stone Temple Pilots Tiny Music... Songs From the Vatican Gift Shop
This is my favorite sound the band has ever adopted. I love the vocal style, and this has some of the catchiest and most melodic cuts the band has ever released. It’s their most fun, most varied album, and it’s perhaps my favorite of theirs, but a few tracks kill the flow a bit, and stop this from being a complete masterpiece like Purple. If i made a top 10 STP songs list, at least 4 of them would be from this album.
4.8/5 (if i’m speaking with total bias, this is a 5. I love this album) | 1 | | Stone Temple Pilots Purple
A totally flawless album. While i enjoy Tiny Music more personally, this one is more focused and fleshed out. The pacing and replayability of this album is astounding, and it’s at least in my top 3 grunge albums of all time. It’s a monumental achievement and one of the most masterful rock albums of the 90’s.

05.28.21 | 2 would be 1 if Daisy wasn’t an instrumental tbh. That song is just begging to have a vocal arrangement over it. | WatchItExplode
05.28.21 | Daisy was my mom's ringtone back in the day I did that stuff.
1,2,3 - 12 bar blues. I prefer not to acknowledge any of the later albums. | JKing92
05.28.21 | For me:
Purple > Tiny Music... > No. 4 > Core > Shangri-La Dee Da
The new stuff doesn't exist to me. 😉 | ArsMoriendi
05.28.21 | GREAT ranking
I've only heard their first 4, but I agree with their order 100% | evilford
05.28.21 | Haven't heard tiny music in forever. But 1 is 1 ageerd | DoofDoof
05.28.21 | this is correct yup, I guess you could switch 5 and 4 - I really liked 'Shangri' when it came out while 'No. 4' I was disappointed by at the time so I guess I'd still keep 5 ahead of 4.
In reality they're about equal but I have better associations with 'Shangri'. | DavidYowi
05.28.21 | I’ve heard great things about No. 4, even though it got mixed reviews on release | ArsMoriendi
05.28.21 | Down, Sour Girl, I Got You, and Atlanta are all good reasons to check No. 4, but a lot if it otherwise is meh, 4 great songs is a lot though | DoofDoof
05.28.21 | Atlanta is the GOAT Doors pastiche tune of the 90s
Quite like Church on Tuesday too, very Perry Farrell vibe to it | JKing92
05.28.21 | I always liked 4 a lot. Sure, some songs are kind of by-the-books hard rock ("Heaven and Hot Rods," "Sex and Violence," "MC5"), but the great stuff ("Down," "Church On Tuesday," "Sour Girl," "Glide," "I Got You," "Atlanta") is absolutely terrific.
Also love Doof's Perry Farrell comparison with "Church On Tuesday." I know that Weiland was a big fan of Jane's Addiction (in fact, on the first tour after he was fired from STP, he often performed "Mountain Song" live). | rockarollacola
05.29.21 | Perdida is such a useless piece of shit record. The fact that any band would release an album so devoid of entertainment at all is infuriating. | CaliggyJack
05.29.21 | 1. S/T 2010
2. No. 4
3. Perdida
4. S/T 2018
everything else is poo | Dwap
05.29.21 | Perdida ain’t so bad. Should be number 6 on this list.
2 is 1 but top 3 is top 3. 3 legit classics. | Grungil
08.03.21 | Totally agree. Purple and Tiny Music can switch for Nº1 anytime, i wont complain. Perdida is really underrated, might take some time, but people will appreciate it over the next years. |
