04.10.21 | This one is close to the best of the lot |

04.10.21 | Okay not gonna lie the '10s lists were starting to hurt my soul but this one is the business |
DoofDoof
04.10.21 | Johnny - the newer lists sort of prove the point that there's no meaningful mainstream or consensus anymore and people are just into 'their thing' - hard to do a list with a load of overlap with anyone. There's Kanye West who's ubiquitous - that's about it. Even peeps like Kendrick Lamar or Frank Ocean prove themselves very much of their time/a bit of a fad after five years of their last really popular album.
Go back to the 90s, 80s and earlier and there's this meaningful (near) mainstream - lots of people liked The Cure, The Smiths, Pixies, My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, etc at the time - and all of which is still popular/regarded well and a load of people agree on now. |

04.10.21 | I mean what was the 'critical consensus' album of 2021 - Fiona Apple, not even her best album probably, has about zero chance of being remembered as fondly as the best albums of 1989? The way it is |
Yotimi
04.10.21 | 10 rules. Possibly my favorite song of all time |

04.10.21 | Great pick on 10 man |

04.10.21 | I nearly forgot to include 10 as for some reason it wasn’t still in my songs library - nice to see it has its big fans |

04.10.21 | Guess I gotta check 10.
I know more of these than I expected (1, 2, 6, 9) given I know very little 80s music. Though I guess ‘89 was really proto-‘90s. |

04.10.21 | Boney - which of the four you know is your favourite? |

04.10.21 | Hmmm I don't think we'll have much overlap here. That Tom Petty album will definitely make it but it won't be the same song.
Great list though! |

04.13.21 | Stone Roses - I Am The Resurrection.
Top 10 of all time for me. |
DoofDoof
04.13.21 | Stone Roses are same bracket as The Verve for me - soundtracked a lot of my teenage years/early 20s but never totally embraced them.
At least unlike Oasis I do quite like their stuff. |

04.13.21 | Bought A New Decade when it came out (95?) after listening to it on a listening post in Virgin Records. I absolutely loved it, I think I like it even more nowadays.
Roses have always been with me since about 94ish. I thought they were ridiculously cool back then, they still carry an aura tarnished slightly by Ian Brown losing his tooth when talking to June Sarpong in the 2000s |
DoofDoof
04.13.21 | Ian Brown's legend has diminished over the years a bit yeah
He sounds really good on the Stone Roses stuff though, I don't know, have to admit it was one I forgot about when considering this list - maybe should have made the cut. There are a few classic songs on that debut. |

04.13.21 | It’s a hell of a debut.
Intrinsic part of Brit musical culture and it’s generally the bollocks. |
