rellik of jazz (Year O' Jazz Week 5)

Hello there fellas, it's time for another weekly edition of the year of fokkin jazz! On the menu today, two modern bangers straight outta the UK! I checked. Anyways, these two relate on a personal level, and probably on your personal level, because one comes from the sea, the other from African origins. Mucho sax and mucho improv.
1Mammal Hands
Captured Spirits

So basically these Norwich fellows decided to capture the spirit of the sea (did you get that) in their instruments, evoking a light breeze and mild waves with a reverb-laden piano, and a square, composed saxophone; but at times (a lot of the time), the sea becomes restless, its drums are wild and unpredictable, its piano thunders chords, and its saxophone erupts, clashing against a cliff, the ensemble slowly growing peaceful as Neptune's anger dies down. I love, love, love this band's ability to create such complex imagery with only three instruments and technical proficiency, not to mention I can totally relate to the theme of the sea, as I live near it myself.
2Sons Of Kemet
Your Queen Is a Reptile

TUBA? TUBA. TUBA! TUBA?!! TUBA. But it's not only that. It's that punk attitude. Now I may be completely wrong but these guys are kind of punk. If I understood it well, their music is basically a way to relate back to their African roots that were inadvertently shunned by the UK government. These boyos will make you journey through the African side of London through their TUBA, saxophones, and various percussions. The rhythms are tribal and groovy, the harmony is simple, reminiscent of electronic music at times, the melodies are catchy as fuck, and of course, there is delicious improvisation. MMMH. A real fest of southern flavors and rebellion, all in one band. You'll be banging your head to this one for a long time, I tell ya.
